Thanks Gilbert, leaving the trash can was deliberate as the "Tramp" in the movie lived amongst the trash cans in an alley.

OK, now I get it. I guess I need to go back and watch some classic Disney, forgot about that part.

This could be the opening credits for "Pirates of the Caribbean". It hit the fantasy right on the button.

+1 from me on this one. I like the saturation.

I really like it. Good capture of the emotions on both their faces. If it was me I would "take out the trash" and cover the wording on the recycling bin. That totally distracted me from an excellent shot.

I really like it. Something so simple but very effective. Having the beach behind with no sign of habitation adds to it, and shooting from the water is the opposite of what most people would do.

Like the others, #1 because of the tree, but the fence line and the apparent mist in #2 intrigues me. I would like too see that one with a little lightning up of the ground. You may have two stunning shots there.

Following my post of a few days ago, here are a few more from Haytor Rock, Dartmoor. The first is similar to my previous post and is taken with a 'proper' camera (rather than a phone). The others give some idea of what the rock is like. It's just a smidgen short of 1500 feet high - one foot short in fact. (That's 457 metres high to the converted). Not terribly tall but high enough to kill you if you fall off.
Lots of rock climbers practice on it but, for the likes of me, a set of steps makes life easier. They were cut into the rock in the 1800's and there was a handrail as well, but that has since been removed. In 1851 a Doctor Coker is quote as saying ' the unsightly stair step is to enable enervated and pinguedinous scions of humanity of this wonderful nineteenth century to gain the summit' - basically for the tired and fat heirs of the nineteenth century (and me!). I don't know what the fuss was about, they hardly stand-out. Maybe they did when new. We actually started the ascent in the wrong place and made it a bit more difficult for ourselves. In reality there's only one spot that demands a stretch and some extra care.
I've tried to process the first two shots to convey the feeling I had at the summit - the sun almost overhead caused high contrast and it was quite warm. Please let me have your opinions if you have time, I do appreciate them.

Wow! Nicely shot! The extra views really bring it into context.

Thanks

As usual you are "spot-on". I still say if its a choice of cloning tool or wet pants......give me the tool!!!!!

JGW, fergmark and Linda, the fact is I'm quite pleased with the way it came out and I'm quite happy with the nearly-night look. I'll be doing another edit of it for a series and I'll go for a normal daylight edit for the whole series.

JGW, here's a link to a DNG version of the dark exposure. If you can get detail out of the sky and render it as a more normally exposed shot, I'd love to see it. I've worked on the merge but not the dark exposure on its own, so I'd like to see what the possibilities are.

Wow! the DNG is more spectacular than I thought it would be. Here it is with the changes. What I did was: load into Photoshop, used the "Quick selection" tool to outline the sky, including the tree on the right. (I thought it better to slightly darken the tree than try to blend in sky later). Then I adjusted the "Brightness/Contrast" sliders on the sky. I touched up the background hills on the left to cut the haze a little and that's it. I did not alter the foreground or the castle at all. You have a beautiful shot there, even without the changes.

Thank you Mike Don Bob & Frank. Linda, I see your point. I may try the cloning tool to clean that up-any lower and I would have been walking around with wet drawers all day!

Lake Lanier is 1 1/2 feet above full pool with more rain coming, so they are releasing water as fast as the Chattahoochee will take it. This was a lull between two storms and the mist caught my eye.

Thank you Gilbert. As I mentioned to Bob, I had to darken the sky that much to get the details to come out. With a dark sky there was a limit to how much I could brighten the foreground, so I decided to go with a twilight look. (Have you tried the download? - it's easier to see the details in the shadows).

Would you mind if I tried an adjustment in Photoshop? I will not touch it without permission.

Nope, you're pretty much informed now. Those short plucked notes are pizzicato.

Now, Ambrose Bierce's definition of a violin. It's a musical instrument which produces sounds, pleasing to the human ear, by the means of friction of a horse's tail on the entrails of a cat.

Dave, As you know I admire your work, and these are both great examples. But the above by Bob, just has to be the UH Quote of the Year.

My 1st thought was "you would never get me up there", then I looked closer and could see you added to the illusion of height with the camera angle. Good job! I would like to see the final product from the camera.

Beautiful composition! I would love to see the foreground lightened up a bit. I'm straining to see detail.
