I also have a few posts from here in Tampa on the Air Force Base and some from a rookery at New Port Richey.
Again, thank you. I do appreciate all the info from an "insider"

Your images are phenomenal! You definitely know how to capture birds. I am happy to hear that you were able to check out some of the places earlier. A new puppy, we expect to see puppy images soon.

Flatwoods Park is dog friendly, so you will be able to take your dog with you. I cannot remember about Lettuce Lake Park. My apologies, I am so accustomed to seeing dogs everywhere, I cannot remember which parks allow them and which do not.

My apologies for the delay in responding. Our internet has been down and I was unable to get this out before this.

In the Tampa area, there are a couple parks, Lettuce Lake Park and Flatwoods Park are two right in Tampa. You should see a very large number of species of birds in Lettuce Lake Park. Flatwoods Park permits dogs and bicycles. In Lakeland, you will find the Circle B Bar Reserve is a terrific area for photographs of birds and also landscape. It was previously a functioning cattle ranch, so you will be able to see some barns and cattle pens. If you like butterflies, this is a terrific area for them. Fort De Soto Park is located in Tierra Verde and this is wonderful bird area with a large species of birds. Riverhills Park is another terrific area for birds. This park is located in Temple Terrace. John Chestnut Park in Tampa is another terrific location. My first two recommendations would be start with the Circle B Bar Reserve and Fort De Soto Park, as I have been very happy with the amount and varieties of birds in both locations. Some of the parks charge an entrance fee, but it is well worth it. When I last was there, Fort De Soto Park and Lettuce Lake had entry fees under ten dollars, but Circle B Bar Reserve and John Chestnut were free.

There is also the Egmont Key National Wildlife Refuge, the Passage Key National Wildlife Refuge, the Pinellas National Wildlife Refuge and Shell Key Preserve in your area.

In Florida there is a program called the Great Florida Birding Trail which you might want to take a look at when you get a chance. https://floridabirdingtrail.com

I will absolutely look at your images. There are a number of places that you should visit whilst you are around the Tampa area. There is one very interesting location around Orlando, called Gatorland. There are numerous bird opportunities plus more. If you are taking I-75 and are able to make a side trip, it is well worth it. I will find my Tampa recommendations and post them tomorrow.

Yeah, the D500 was a real mistake, I could only make 40X60 sharp prints from it. What were they thinking.

What a magnificent photograph! I love it. It is unfortunate that you could only make those very small sharp prints from it.

We are in Cocoa, on the Indian River. I turned our backyard into a nature feeding area, with a small bog that has lots of pitcher plants, protea, a bromeliad and plumeria section, a variety of frogs and a million more mosquitoes. It is pretty to look at, but it is not so enjoyable during mosquito season. We do have bat houses and flying squirrels, so I am working on attempting to photograph those.

I recommend to everyone to take a trip to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Area. Now through spring are terrific times for bird photography.

By the way, you are welcome in my backyard anytime.

These are beautiful! Thank you for this set. I believe you have accomplished a difficult task;

Although, it appears that you are in my backyard. We have a bunch of pitcher plants and protea growing.

When I first got into digital, I bought a Canon but it never felt comfortable. I have a pinched nerve in my neck (a result of racetrack wrecks) & it affects my right hand. I had tons of issues with the Canon & actually getting my index finger on the shutter was a challenge. I almost walked away from photography all together.

Then, on a hunch, I asked a friend if I could hold their Nikon. It was love at first grip! The difference between the two is probably just minimal but it made a world of difference to me. And that, dear Hoggers, is why I shoot Nikon! 😎👍

I applaud you for continuing in photography. I exercised thoroughbreds in Aiken, South Carolina when I was younger. My desire was to become a veterinarian. The veterinarian that I worked for was nice enough to allow me to purchase his old Nikon and a few lenses back for a great price and over time. I have been a devout Nikon fan ever since.

Anyone who thinks really good painters don't have favorite brushes or paints or "special" tools and technology is more clueless than many of the other posters in this discussion.

You are so very right. But this does apply to almost all artists and painters. My mother and sister were artists, and they had their favourite tools of their trade. And, only they were permitted to touch those various things, such as paints, brushes, pens, canvas and more.

You are a very fortunate person to have the knowledge between want and need. Unfortunately, there are some wants that I can very easily turn into a need when it comes to technology. In my case, the only thing holding me back is the bank account.

I don't know but I wonder how can it be if Nikon is selling fewer cameras than Canon and Sony?

If this is the case, it simply could be that more Nikon users just happened to be here. I really like my Nikon Z-9, but still will not part with my D-850 or D-6.

You do no favours by inciting discussions as to brands. No one asked Picasso what brand of paint he used.

Perhaps that might have been an interesting discussion. I wonder what brand of paint he did use? Hmmmmm.
