The only downside staying outside the park, other than the distance, is that you need to have a timed reservation to enter every day....

Goal is how to select 7fps burst mode for bird/wildlife pictures... and have it saved in Program mode.
Per Alexander White's Book page 42 "Bird Watching" Scene Mode:

Scene Mode: [Menu, Scene, Bird-watching, Ok or right button, Single or Continuous) per fig 3-58 for a continuous burst of about 7 shots at 7 fps. When you press Ok or right button, there is no choice of Single or continuous, Instead the choices are: [Normal(180 degrees) or Wide(360)] and not Single or Continuous!

Program Mode: Continuous, [Single, Continuous H, Continuous L, Preshooting cache, Continuous H:120fps, Continuous H:60fps]

Firmware 1.5

What am I missing??

I do not own a P1000 and thank you for adding your expert information to address this issue. While my suggestion may be of value to P500 owners, you provided a great solution to P1000 owners. Thanks for your help and suggestions. The people in this forum are very knowledgeable and helpful, for which I am very grateful!

Paul,
I have the P500 and the bottom mount of my camera ripped off while attached to the tripod. This is due to the P500 being top heavy and after much searching appears to be a common issue. Thanks for doing the math for the number of pictures that a 128GB SD card holds at 16MB per pic. The Coolpix900 does not do raw so 22,000+ capacity is overkill.
A 64GB SD card would be perfect, BUT I will also be shooting some video as well so 128MB would offer the extra capacity. Two 64GB cards would offer me some insurance on not losing all my work.

I use a 128GB SD card for my Nikon Coolpix P900, Sandisk Extreme sdxc with 90mb speed.
I go on 3 week trips and shoot around 8000 pictures plus video at National Parks.
Next week is Badlands, Glacier, Yellowstone and Theodore National.
On a 10 mile hike, I don't want to stop to change my memory card.
Any comments or expert advice on this strategy?

Thanks for the feedback. So formatting a new SD card is both strongly advised for assuring it will work in the field and will work best using the specific camera's formatting program.
Formatting should also be done whenever photos are off loaded to start fresh for the next photo adventure and safe to do over and over without hurting the SD card.

When buying a new 128GB SD card for my Nikon Coolpix P900, should I format it after loading it into my camera the first time? Pros and cons ? Sandisk Extreme sdcc with 90mb speed.
