Just a final update. The eBay seller accepted taking the lens back with a full refund.Again, thanks everyone for the comments.
Tension ring is faulty. Will work to have the lens returned and find a high-quality replacement.
Regarding the version, thanks for clarifying the difference. I’m learning something new every day.
It appears the issue with this lens is the tension adjustment ring is not working properly. I want to express my appreciation for all the comments that helped me to focus on the specific nuances of this lens. I know how to proceed.
I would say it is a push – pull Since the only way I can move from 100 to 400 and in between is manually.
Don’t know how to respond to “version“. Can you provide more information where I could find this information? Thanks.
Regarding friction, I have not seen any difference when adjusting the dial from smooth to tight.
I would have expected this zoom lens to slide very smoothly when I’m going between 100 and 400. Is that the type of functionality you have experienced with this zoom lens?
Just purchased the above used lens on eBay. Moving from 100 to 400, the lens doesn’t slide smoothly. Has anyone had experience with this lens to confirm my concern?
Correction: “forum”, not “from”.
Acquired some photography experience (Pentax) while in the Marine Corps (72 - 76). Just retired and also invested in new camera equipment. Just look like an interesting from. I’m hoping I could learn a lot. And maybe share too!
