Wow! I'm taking notes and marveling at the help I'm getting. Even from Ireland!
Happy New Year!

I am trying to learn the whole curriculum on video rather quickly. It is much more complex than I anticipated. Thanks for your input.

Many thanks. I knew I could get an expert here. You are not sticking your nose in my business at all. I'll let you know my progress.

My reply: Converting 8mm video tapes from about 1997 to digital using kit from Video2Digital, a gadget with RCA input and mini SD card output (which seems to be working). The converstion is in AVI video format, but it also has a software disk which purports to allow conversion to other formats. I haven’t got there yet. I hope to get to final product: digital videos on thumb drives or DVDs to share with family so they can “play” the videos on common home equipment (like DVD players, smart TVs, or maybe Blue Ray players).
In converting analog video to digital, what formats are most used? What will "play" on most home equipment?
Trying to save old 8mm film and VHS tapes. I can output with RCA jacks to CRT television, but dead in the water thereafter.
Anyone tried Legacy box, a commercial analog to digital service via mail? It seems pretty pricey to me. How is the quality?
