I crop extensively myself and I just can't believe that there are those who claim they don't. I'm a wildlife photographer and even with some of the mega zooms, I find myself needing to crop. So many view cropping as some evil process that the crop boogie man will get you.

I gave up pixel peeping years ago, when I switched to DxO.

Has anyone seen or heard from Cany143 lately? I'm having withdrawal pains from his beautiful pictures.

I thought the tree was a distraction but it's interesting to see other opinions.

It does seem to be a bit of a distraction. Maybe a compromise, cutout the greenery to the right and some of the trunk would work.

It's unfortunate that we have the terminology we do in photography. "I'm going out to shoot some kids." "Be sure to get head shots."

When you out in public with people around, someone could call the police if they overheard that conversation. I try to avoid "shoot" and "shots," but it ain't easy.

Another thing is the names of cameras. Nikon had the F series - the FTN - and then they went to digital - Z 6. Why, oh why, did they put a space after the Z in the digital names? Z 6, Z 7? Look online, and you'll see them written with and without the space. And then they introduced the Zf and the Z fc. Did they run out of numbers? I've lost track of spacing in the Zf names. Nikon isn't the only camera company with bad model names. For companies with such clever people, they should be able to come up with consistent names that let the public know what kind of a cameras they are seeing.

I have to leave now and buy a microwave. I feel like we're cavemen here without a working microwave.

They did not run out of numbers, there are an infinite number of them

Never get off the ground doesn't mean safe. All three astronaults were killed in the Apollo 1 that never got off the ground.

After that happened, my father-in-law, a Boeing engineer working at Redstone Arsenal, was in a group tasked with finding a way for the astronauts to escape if something happened while they were still on the platform. They found the quickest, most reliable solution was the least technical way. It was a zip-line over a baricade.

Around 1959 I took a computer programming course. It used Symbolic Optimum Assembly Procedure which had a two-part command. The first part was the operation to be performed and the second part was the location of the next instruction on the drum memory. You had to refer to a table that told you how many milliseconds the instruction took to complete so you could figure out how far the drum memory had turned.

My first program was on an IBM 650. It used a rotating drum for its memory. That was also in 1959. We had no courses. Freshmen did not get any assembly or compiler access. We had to do the optimization ourselves. I miss the Shift Left 15 key.

I'm Welsh I know what you mean. Our longest word in Welsh and I believe the second longest word in the world is: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch however, we just abbreviate (now why is that such a long word?) it to Llanfair PG. It basically tells a story rather than be just one word, about a house with a white gate down by the river etc.

In English, the Brits would invent some kind of Cockney slang for it, while in the US we would use "sander" instead of "sanding machine".

No, when the US declared war on Japan, Germany, being an Axis power with Japan, declared war on the US. I can't answer whether we would have remained neutral but because of Germany's alliance with Japan, it would have eventually gotten involved.

Your population figures include mothers and babies. The total population of the UK in 1939 was 39,000,000.
You are correct in that the US did not declare war on Germany.

The US declared war on Japan Dec 8, 1941 and on Germany and Italy 3 days later.

Would someone please identify this spider? I think it may be a wolf spider, seems a bit small, though. I hope it's not a brown recluse!

I apologize for the quality of the pic, too. It's a heavily cropped, one-handed iPhone capture in my kitchen.

Thanks in advance

ps And, there's no possibility of another pic of this spider. It's well squished, quite mangled & in the trash!

Serious replies, preferred.

Definitely not a Brown Recluse. I am not familiar with the Hobo, but it could be a Wolf.

The theme was "Silence," but I liked my slightly embellished title better for this UHH thread

With regards to whether one should - or needs to - include a descriptive title, I think the below (shot in same area for same theme) needs my image title, "Waiting."

Your first cut conveys the silence of the playground without kids very well. The color version does not. This darker version seems almost sinister.
