Suggest you Google Gary Fong. He has some interesting videos on using diffused, bounced flash. But, understand that he is in business to sell you something. Still interesting though.

I was born and raised in FL now living in the Carolinas (not near the coast, however) and we used to fill the bathtub with water before the storm arrived so that we could flush the toilets. Also, fill any containers you have with water because I have seen times when we didn't have water for about a week. Of course, that was a number of years ago and I hope things are better now.

The photography mags are mostly ads, anyway.

I thought your picture was really good and the clouds added a lot to the shot. I didn't even try because I heard so many bad things about using your camera, and besides, I don't have a long lenses suitable for such a shot. Good job.
