Looks like regular old saw palmettos that have been cleaned up. They're native to Fl. They like to cluster. They can take over a place. Some cool landscaper allowed them to thrive and made a great looking presentation. Great find!

Thanks for this. My Dad had one of these when I was in the 5th grade-- A Greenbrier, it had windows and seats. It was rear engine like the VW Microbus. Like the VW it was awkward as a work truck because you could only load heavy stuff from the side. He double-dutyed it though -- He replaced his '57 Suburban CarryAll with it. Great looking thing.

Nice shot.
I’ve seen these on the Mississippi just north of St. Louis during fall migration.

Wow, that's way inland. I brought a sailboat out of Okeechobee to a yard in Charlotte Harbor and the engine went out shortly before I was set to turn north off the Caloosahatch. I took advantage of the wind shift off the south as a front was coming. I had the headsail to starboard and the main to port at nearly 90 degrees and was going as fast as the junk on the hull would let me. About a mile into Pine Island Sound, there were big groups of white pelicans. I'd seen them when I ran survey boats in Louisiana but never up close. I grew up with brown pelicans so when I first heard dozens of these big birds clambering it shocked me. In the best way. It was epic.

Thanks

I was in Ocala west of the railroad mainline and saw a lone white pelican. I don't know them well but I have not seen one working freshwater this far inland. We're far east of the Saint Johns. Everything that flys finds its way there... I've seen white pelicans in big numbers in the backwaters along the Gulf Coast from Tampa Down to Florida Bay.

I sprinted across a footbridge and negotiated this steep bank to catch up as the pelican was stroking at about 5 knots. I got a shot.

March Madness inspired a pause in posting my Thailand photos and instead, I'll post some pictures which I took in the last few weeks of my 2 oldest granddaughters playing basketball. They both have a fantastic coach - their mother, my daughter Alison who was an outstanding player in the CYO league since 3rd grade and went on to star at San Rafael High School which won the Northern California Championship in 1991. Unfortunately, they lost the State Championship by 2 in double overtime at the Oakland Coliseum, then home of the Golden State Warriors. This set is of Samantha, who is in 5th grade. I will post a second set of my oldest granddaughter Hailey, 14, following this one.
I hope you enjoy them!

Awesome! Good shots that very clearly show how absolutely real the competition is. I was a CYO Basketball player. Intense stuff. CYO athletes got scholarships in the program. Much more complete now from what you posted. Our program started in 7th grade... a million, kazillion years ago. Thanks!

I'm sure the weather was just crazy... BUT the crazy thing I dig about this photo is how it is a product endorsement and a really cool street statement at the same time. Thanks for this! I got a deep chest chuckle when I first saw it.

This appeared quite recently. I don't know if it's accurate either sometimes or always. PDF attached. If it is true even sometimes then it may be important to photographers generally, not merely "whistleblowers".

Whistleblowers Take Note: Don’t Trust Cropping Tools

Cropping tools like those in Google Docs allow viewers to see the full, original images.

Thanks, Nikita, This is vital on far more levels than photographs. I deal with documents in ADOBE daily. I write articles that require I submit in MW. I'd hate for my publishers to know how poorly a typist I am. Truly, thanks.

These are wonderful! I feel they would be beautiful as chapter graphics for some romantic adventure. Just great. Keep doing these -- thanks

Sadly - yes... there are two plants that are okay, there was an ornamental pepper plant that is so hot and awkward on the tongue it was only good for stringing up and looking pretty. It's done. It's a drag, but in other places, stuff like this is over by early November and everybody is used to it. We use our herbs to make dishes all year and it grows huge... We can usually get it to March when it blows up again. I'm from way south in the true subtropics here in Florida... I've been in the Forest for 19 months. I feel the loss. ...but when they were healthy everybody was enjoying them.

I'm hopeful the seeds these plants have dropped since they started blooming will volunteer and we'll be back on track... or we just start with sprouts.

Have a great New Year.
