Graham, I love your work and look forward to your postings. Frankly there is nothing to criticize with this image. I thought maybe B&W but only for a fleeting moment. Color enhances this capture and I really don't believe anything could be done to improve the image. One thing I do know is I would not want to sit thru a 2 hour sermon on those chairs. Thanks for sharing this image!

Welcome to UHH! First criticism....your photo is not of Mt.Whitney it is of course Denali or Mt. McKinley and the Alaska Range. Keep shooting you did a nice job.

AK, I think you should get on the horn, and ask him. I mean, we could play this all day, but maybe that's what you want!
How respected did you say he was??! ;-)

Just wanting to pass on words that got me thinking there truly is more separating a snapshot from a good photograph and that as photographers we may want to create more than just recording a scene. If I've gotten a few to think about what we are doing when we press the shutter then I've accomplished what I intended to do with this posting. As to my friend, He has a gallery in Lake Tahoe and has traveled the world extensively. His name is Keoki Flagg and one of his latest ventures was documenting the travel of a paraplegic to the south pole of Antarctica. He stopped by my house on the way to Alaska on another assignment.

A well known respected professional photographer and good friend stopped by today and as always we entered into a discussion of photography. During that time he said "close your eyes and shoot from the heart". I never really thought much about the philosophy of photography but I have been repeating those words all afternoon. I can answer the equation in a number of ways and just wondering what the words mean to you. There is no correct or incorrect response.

I like this shot. I can visualize it blown up to 4'x 8' and hanging in a modern home, office, or gallery.

Color. The B&W ( in this case grey) does nothing for me.

Nice photo and it looks as if summer is about to close as the fireweed is nearing the top of its stalk. The lodge here used to be open year round and locals could count on the best homemade pies.

I generally do not critique as I don't want to be "the pot calling the kettle black" but in this case I really like the photo and feel it has a flaw that is distracting. I have to agree with GS's comments regarding the halo along the shore line. Halos are one of the items that draw my eye immediately and removal of these in this capture would improve it immensely. Just MHO for what it is worth. Overall, very nice photo.

A number of sporting good stores like REI and others sell "dry bags" of various sizes for rafting trips. I've used them and they work.

I personally do not care for #2. The original, with a little cropping, is a wonderful photo.
