I live next to Cape Canaveral and would take a 20 or 30 second exposure of a launch in the day time. I can do it at night of course but with sunshine it is all washed out with light. I'm assuming some kind of filter is needed.

Well the Thunderbirds will be flying over next month, hopefully I can get some better shots. Last time I used manual focus and got some and lost others.

Ok, I watched a vid about using back button focusing on my D3100 so I have what may be a dumb question. Say I want to take pictures of a bird in flight and he's sitting in a tree. I set up my camera for the rapid fire shutter to catch it in flight and focus on it using the back button. Once it takes off and is flying towards me or away will the camera remain focused on it throughout it's flight or do I have to keep my finger on the back button while I shoot?

Yes, that is also my direct concern. I will probably have to hire a company and show them what I want and the text and ask them to put it together.

No it's not but then I'm not publishing it, I'm going to frame it and give it to her as a gift. But I have a couple of months to play with it. I do have a photoshop disk and have played with it before so I know it's possible, just take me some time. Maybe next week on my days off.

Hi, I am going to China in Feb to get engaged and want to present my fiance' and her family with a framed roughly 8x10 ''picture''. Attached is a layout that I imagine. I am no artist and don't understand how the use of layers functions. I've read about them but know it would take me hours to produce what I want but someone who understands layers could work this out in minutes, I think . This layout is not written in stone so feel free to take artistic license if you want. But I would like it to be yellow text on a red background since those are the Chinese colors of their flag. I want to put the text on the left and an image of a white swan(s) below or beneath the layer with it transparent enough so the text can be read over the image. On the right I plan on placing an actual swan feather that I bought. I am thinking that with the feather on the right the image of the swan should be facing the left. I would like the image to blend seemlessly behind the text such as a dream like image if that makes sense. Keep in mind the margins may need to be brought in so the frame doesn't cover the text or image. I did a google image search and found these two images but these are only examples of what I like. Like I said feel free to render your own version. The english version of the story is this:During the Zhenguan Era of Tang dynasty, Uighur in the Xiyu was a vassal state of Tang Dynasty. It was customary for local officials to show their friendship and respect to the emperor of Tang by giving him wonderful presents. Once, Uighur sent a man named Mian Bogao to bring lots of rare jewelries and treasures to the emperor. Among these presents, the most precious were two swans.

On his way to the distant capital, Mian worried a lot about the two swans. He personally did the feeding and watering, dared not to neglect a moment.

One day, he came upon a lake. He had this brilliant idea to put the swans into the water for a swim. This way, they could rid themselves of the dirt and grime that have clung to them on their long trip. Besides, he was sure the emperor would appreciate two white swans more than the dirty ones he now had.




But as soon as Mian set the birds down on the water, the ungrateful swans flew away and was soon lost from his sight. Only a few feathers remained on the shore. Mian was so distressed and wondered what he would now present to the emperor and how he could report to the Uighur King. After thinking, Mian decided to continue the mission to the east. He took out a clean white silk cloth and carefully wrapped the swan feather, and wrote a poet on the cloth:

Present swans to Tang Dynasty,
Mountains are high and roads are far.
Lost the treasure at Mianyang Lake,
The friendship of Uighur could never give up.
Your highness, the emperor of Tang,
please punish guilty Mian Bogao.
Gift is light, but the respect is genuine,
to walk a thousand li to present a swan feather.

When he arrived at the palace, he saw that the emperor was surrounded by messengers who were presenting him with gift after marvelous gift. When his turn came, Mian offered the cloth wrap with a single swan’s feather and his poem to the emperor.

The Emperor read the poem, and heard Mian’s story. He not only did not blame him, but also was impressed by Mian’s honesty and loyalty to fulfill his mission. So the Emperor rewarded him heavily.

From then on, this story spread and is passed on as a proverb that means: although a gift might be inexpensive or light, it means a deep thought that truly matters. Actually I had not thought of leaving it open for a few seconds at all! I've tried using the multiple exposures ie 1/3 of a second with a D3100 but even with a tripod that required holding the shutter by hand and defeated the purpose resulting in shaky looking images. Maybe that's the simplest solution and what I hadn't thought of!

From what I read, an intervalometer's minimum setting is 1 second which again doesn't allow me to make multiple shots in one second.

I have a D3100 and my wireless remote lasted long enough to test it a few times. I've checked everything and it only wants to work if I depress the shutter release half way down on the camera which defeats the entire purpose of it being a remote. I'm going back to China next Feb. for the Chinese New Years and would like to capture images of fireworks etc.. and for that want to use the multiple exp. mode ie several per second. So I'm thinking screw it, just get a wired remote and my question is suggestions for a wired remote that will allow the multiple exposures. Thanks
