Have the 90mm Tamron Macro and love it. Been using Nikon equipment 43 years but love this lens.
Using Nikon cameras for 40 years but over the last ten have used Tokina 12-24, Tamron 90mm macro and a 16-300 Tamron and love them all. Buy what you can afford and go out and shoot great photos. That's what it's all about.
If I have my point and shoot or my Nikon with a big lens, I'm just happy to be out there shooting. What anyone else thinks about my equipment, I could care less. I let the photos speak for themselves. Haven't always been that way but when finally got there, it felt great.
Don't think anyone here has compared the sharpness of a 70-200 2.8 with that of the Tamron 16-300. There's really not a comparison. I think most are just saying they just like the convenience of the Tamron.
I forgot to mention that the Tamron 16-300 will focus down to 15 inches at 300 mm which is the equivalent of 450 mm on a 1.5 crop camera. This also makes it a great close up lens.
I have been into photography for 40 years and always used a Nikon 80-200 2.8 zoom because of the extreme sharpness so it was a tough decision to buy the Tamron 16-300. But I did buy it and it never comes off my camera. I decided that having an all in one lens that wasn't so heavy and that I didn't have to continuously change lenses was more than worth any lack of sharpness and made photography a lot more fun. My friends haven't seen any difference in my work and most software now is capable of doing a great job of sharpening images. I have a number of 18x24 photos hanging on my walls and no one has ever asked what lens I used.
