Hi, although I understand there are many areas in Costa Rica for photo ops, with the limited time we had (1 week) we narrowed it to two locations. Anywhere near the Arenal Volcano will put you close to great scenery and wildlife. I took a 5 hour boat tour down the river in the Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve. It was amazing! There are 2 areas of the river and our guide took us down “the one where the tourists don’t go”. It was amazing. And we didn’t see another boat except for 2 that were anchored and fishing. The variety of wildlife is incredible and the driver of the boat gets you so close! We stayed at the Tabacon and booked the tour through them. The Tabacon is wonderful but really expensive. But the natural hot springs there are wonderful. The last part of our trip was on the West Coast where there are beautiful beaches. Completely different from the jungle, but beautiful as well. Enjoy!

Thanks to all for the kind words. I think some of the shots could have been in better focus. When posting a few images from a large number of them I found it difficult to see each one in detail before selecting it for upload. Maybe I need to review them all and move them to a file, and post the whole file. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to easily find the best images, select them, and then post them? I was using thumbnails and it was difficult. Thanks in advance!

Thanks to all for the great suggestions for my Costa Rica trip. I posted some pictures on the thread but then realized that it would be better to create a new topic for the pics. So here are a few of the many photos I took.

All, got back from Costa Rica and have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Very friendly people, and many amazing photo opportunities. Attached are a few. I’d appreciate some constructive feedback since I’m still feeling my way and hopefully learning. Thanks to all for the advice prior to the trip, and for feedback on the photos.

I have a D750 and love the 24-120 f4 as a versatile walking around lens!

Thanks Indiana! I’ve heard nothing but great reports on the wildlife photo opportunities. I’m bringing a Nikon D750 with 4 lenses covering 16 to 600 mm, and a small Sony Cyber shot. Hopefully we can hook up with a private tour or 2 to see some off the beaten path sights. Cheers!

My wife and I are traveling to Costa Rica. The first 5 days are at the Tabacon Resort near the foot of the Arenal Volcano. Then it’s to the beach area on the west coast. I’m looking for some suggestions for good photography locations. Anyone been there, and have any advice?
