Back to the original topic, whenever something is acting goofy, I just hold reset the camera to the default settings (hold down both green marked buttons on the left and right top of camera). Usually takes care of funky camera operation. I also do that before an important shoot and think about how I want the camera to perform for the occasion.

I find that works well for me!
