Reading this sure put a simple on my face. I enjoyed every line.
These pictures are beyond great. Perfect composition, superb focus, perfectly captured. Nice work.
Hey, man; Great Job. Pictures are soft and delicate and perfectly exposed. Nice work, especially considering the level of difficulty the environment imposed.
A brilliant series. Very well executed.
The first picture, with the circle of boats against a bright sky, is simply brilliant! Worthy of the highest praise. Kudos!
#1 & #2 are incredible knockouts! Beautiful beyond belief! You are the Master, my friend.
Sharp shooter - Firstly, let me thank you for the welcome. It is an interesting forum that, I believe, hails from all corners of the globe. Very cool.
To quote: "the eyes...look a little soft." Well, my old flat bed scanner is to blame for that. All the pics I posted are slides, and my old Epson scanner does not do a good job in that department. Trust me, when I say, the original slides are super crisp & sharp. A tripod was used in every shot. They are, as you noted, small files, easier to upload, hence no downloads.
Essentially, as I stated, my camera is always on a tripod. If the model is face on, then focusing on one eye will do, since the other eye is on the same plane. My Nikon D2x does a good job of auto focus, (I use one point, dead center) although I have focused manually sometimes. Shooting one model doesn't present a need to deal with multiple focal points.
Actually, I don't use strobes. Natural light for me. If indoors, I position the model by a window. I use an on-camera flash, (Nikon Speedlight SB-600) dedicated to my camera & only for weddings. Flash has a tendency to make every pic look the same. Blah.
F-stop is 5.6 to f2 and always in manual mode. When metering off of the model's face, I invariably open up a stop, or meter off a gray card in the same light as the model's face.
Well, that does it. I hope I've answered your inquiries to your satisfaction. Ciao!
Love the pose and the setting. Works nicely as B&W, too.
Great mood. Nicely done. Early morning is my favorite time of day for photography.
