This is an outstanding value. I hope someone takes you up on it. I have an original issue D40 with these same lenses and have taken some of my best pictures with it. The D40 is an excellent camera for travel owing to its size and the inexpensive 18-55mm lens is tack sharp. While I have moved on through the D300 to the D7200, I will always keep my D40. Good luck!
I have the 18-55 as well as the Tammy on my D7200. They are each great price/value lenses. I also have a Nikkor 24-85, a Nikkor 28-80 and a Sigma 10-20 ultra-wide which I like very much. You may want a 50mm prime in your bag as well. Yes, lens quality speaks to many aspects of the image. But overall, it is the synergy of your own eye and your management of light through the camera which defines your craftwork.
I was in Mexico a couple of years ago with a tour group from church. I brought my Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens and an old Canon S90 p&s. I might recommend your Sony and a Nikon D3200 wi/kit as it is inexpensive and fairly functional. I also used an inconspicuous thermal bag as a camera bag which actually worked great! Buena suerte y vaya con Dios!
I remember seeing this lovely home from across the bay on a sunny morning. Your image captures a great mood. Good job!
Thx, Allan. I volunteer at the Alamo, so I've been tied up. I'll get on it shortly!

I got my refurb D7200 with 15 shutter clicks in January from Adorama for $704. I've been a D300 user for a long time. This camera is as close to perfection as I have seen. I love it!
As other readers advise' don't drink the water or use ice and be cautious about fruits and vegetables which are eaten without peeling. In Mexico City, visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Templo Major, Chapultepec Park and the Museo Anthropologico. You will see police with automatic weapons patrolling the streets. This is business as usual. Visit Puebla, if possible. It's about an hour and some change southeast of Mexico City. Should you go there. you will see some barrios that make 'third world' sound like middle class. Don't stop; and stay on the main road which, as you leave greater Mexico City, becomes a beautiful and well-maintained parkway. Safe areas in Mexico City for hotels include the Reforma district and the Zona Roja. Vaya con Dios!
I also have this lens and it is among my favorites!
It's a very versatile lens, so I'd replace it. You can find it all day long for under $200.
I like it. The critic is obviously not a student of Impressionism.
I use the Sigma 10-20 as well. Works great; excellent value!
A beautiful shot! I was there at mid-day, but under blue skies I was happy with my pictures. I would really like to go back.
