I don’t remember signing a model release…

I took some leave recently to visit my Dad and family for his 70th birthday. When I got back, I still had a few days of leave left and I was bored, so I figured I’d go check out Shenandoah National Park since it’s only a few hours away. I got there late evening and just had time to set up my hammock before heading out to get some sunset pictures. The view was incredible and the next two days were filled with more vistas and views than anyone can capture with a camera. Here are a few of the better ones, and as always I’m open to critiques on composition and editing.

I got up early yesterday and drove down to Fort Soledad to get a good vantage point for some pictures of the blood moon here in Guam. Unfortunately, my phone does not do well at night and, although I brought my Nikon, I couldn't remember how to get it set up right for good night shots. After messing around with it for a bit, I looked up and realized I was missing the eclipse while I was trying to figure it out. So, I decided to just set back and enjoy the view unhindered by having to take any pictures. I guess, the best camera is not always the one you have with you, but maybe sometimes the one you know how to use best. The last picture in this set is the best I could do for the night photography. The others are some random pictures I took throughout the day as I drove around and hiked. Hope you enjoy them.

Perhaps the owners didn't mind their cars getting rained on because it gave them an excuse to do what all classic car owners love to do. Clean and wax their cars.

What I really like about all these pictures is...no people. Rain must have scared them all off. I don't usually like people in my pictures which is hard to achieve at most car shows. Great pictures of some nice classic cars.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. Guam has it's share of problems, but overall, it's not a bad place to be stationed for a few years.

I bet when this came out in '72 some people said, "Cars these days have no style". Nostalgia is a funny thing. Glad to see you got some good shots and hopefully the bugs left you alone.

Since moving to Guam last year I've seen some of the most beautiful sunsets in my life. I'm not sure what it is, but the colors seen to be more vivid than anywhere else. These where taken about five minutes apart. One with my Iphone, and one with my Nikon D3400. Feel free to take a guess which is the phone and which is the camera. Any critiques of the processing, composition and picture in general are also welcome.

Happy Memorial Day from Guam. These pictures are just one of the many things that make Guam a unique place. Every year for Memorial Day, they place American and Guam flags at Asan Beach Park, one of the beaches US troops landed on first to liberate Guam from the Japanese. Each American flag represents an American serviceman who died during the invasion and then liberation of Guam. Each Guam flag represents a Chamorro person who died during the invasion, occupation, and liberation. I had the honor of helping place the flags, and I have to admit it's quite a stirring reminder when you drive past and see all the flags waving in the breeze. In a way, I like this better than a big memorial or monument. It's simple but poignant. The people of Guam are definitely in touch with the past and have developed a distinct way to remember those who fell in the defense and liberation of Guam.

Early morning, after the volunteers finished placing the flags. (Phone)

I came Back in the evening with my Nikon D3400 to see if I could get better shots than with my phone. (Nikon)

There is a small ridge just south of the beach that gave me a good vantage point for sunset. (Nikon)

I needed a good view, because there is also a light for every flag. The pictures don't do it justice. (Phone)

Again, the picture cannot really capture the feeling here. I'm not that good of a photographer. Standing in the middle of these flags at night, each with their own light. It's truly a fitting memorial. (Nikon)

Since moving to Guam, I've noticed that they have quite a few murals around the island. Some of them are quite impressive and intricate. It reminded me of a few photos I've taken from various places of different murals and street art. Personally I'm a fan of most of these. If done right, I think they can really spruce up an otherwise boring building or location. Feel free to add any that you've seen or liked in the comments or another post.

Guam Carabao. Agana, Guam. Interestingly enough, the first time I came to Guam, I saw a man walking his carabao while his dog rode on the carabao's back.

Local city mural. Piti, Guam. Featuring the Guam rail and a carabao.

Dragon Waves Mural. Yokosuka, Japan. This was taken years ago with my Nikon Coolpix. I had to stitch two pictures together to get it all. As you can see it messed up a little on the tile and the sign.

People of Seattle. Seattle, Washington.

Mural in Progress. San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Here's what it looks like now. (I screenshot this image from Google Maps. Not one of my pictures)

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. This one is debatable if this is art or graffiti. Either way, I liked how the sun and shadows looked.
