Kiron, "shooting" -- it's a metaphor -- as in, "Where did you shoot that picture." My photography friends use it all the time. I do, too, and I've never shot a gun. Just saying.

I don't do a lot of street photography, and when I do I do so with no small amount trepidation, including concerns for privacy, exploitation, and of course having my gear smashed against the cement (I recommend if you're going to do street photography, make sure your gear is insured). Photographing children on the street is of course a special issue. I sometimes wonder if Henri Cartier-Bresson could even be a street photographer in today's world.

Anyway, here's two shot I took. The B/W I did not ask permission. I was on a river photographing wildlife (in a city), using a telephoto lens with a 2x teleconverter when I saw a woman with her children approaching. Instinctively I fired off a round of shots.

Mother was not pleased, and I told myself: NEVER do that again (without asking), and soon afterward I had some business cards printed with JUST my email to give to people who might want a copy.

In this regard, recently I was at a small rodeo near where I live. I was shooting the bull riding when I saw these two girls (sisters, I was certain) looking into the arena, and what appeared to be their mother standing behind them. I asked if I could take the shot. The mother was pleased, and gave me permission. And then I gave her my card, and said I would be happy to send her a copy. She was thrilled...but never contacted me...or hasn't yet.

Anyway, these were lucky shots: both with interesting subjects (to my mind) –– but as my mailman says (he's also a shooter): lucky shots count, too. Also, they both have a degree of anonymity, hiding the kids' faces.

Well, that's my approach. Hope this information helps.
