Had to do some quick re-takes of jewelry for sale on the web. Initially, I used my D7100 with a 35-135 zoom Macro. Lighting was 3-Daylight compact squiggly bulbs. Zoom worked fine with the Macro feature but sharpness dropped off during post. Looked good on the computer via teathered. Used the iPhone for a quick re-take and I think they look better! What do you think?

Does anyone with some technical background or such know exactly how a digital camera 'knows' when your subject is in focus?

Does it sense how many pixels are activated? Is it programmed in a particular way? It must somehow 'read' off the subject perhaps in distance or such? I understand that many cameras do not acquire tack sharp focus even though it looks perfect in the viewfinder and in Liveview. Any information on this subject would be most appreciated by me and a host of other photographers.

BTW, I'm shooting D7100 with an assortment of Nikon lenses. Some photos are excellent and some are not what I thought they would be in terms of sharpness...even at a high aperture and slow shutter, etc. Thanks!

I have a D7100 with the two SD card slots. I have heard that you could shoot color & bw together some way to get the same photo to be in color AND in bw! I have not figured out a way to do this. Is it in post production? If anyone knows more about this please let me know how to set the camera(if possible). Thank you in advance!

I've had the photo bug since 1965. I've had many different cameras over the years from Mamiya, Hasselblad, Bronica, Nikon F, and just recently got a D7000. Recently retired since April and would love to get back to shooting every day. D7000 was in my budget so I was not able to get any upgrade but I think the 7000 is plenty of camera for me. Also have a Nikon 35mm 1.8 and a Nikon 18-70 f3.5 DX.

Well, I'd like to supplement my retirement income with some photo sales. I was going to try the online stock photo places and see what they might be able to do for me. Not sure where else to go so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love the advice!

Shot a few photos using a telephoto with polarizing filter(67mm) outdoors on Auto setting. When reviewing the shots the focusing points & the AF area bracket were in the photo the LCD! That's the first time that happened.

When viewing the shots on my computer, those were gone. Anyone know what happened? These were all in JPEG.

thanks!

I just happened to look at the sensor and it had these tiny smudges; I carefully cleaned it and it does look better but I'll check more photos when I shoot again.

I'm using a D7000 and I've noticed for the second time these small dark spots on a lot of photos I've taken recently. Last time I cleaned the mirror, lenses and it seemed to work.

I've heard about Nikon's problem with oil spots on the sensor and I think that might be the problem. I've had the camera "clean" the sensor a couple of times but have not noticed it come up.

Does anyone have any ideas what's causing these faint spots?

thank you!

My background(these are still pictures of jewelry) is white along with some white reflectors, so maybe there's just too much "brightness".

Hello all,
New to this forum. Using a D7000, set to Manual, ISO 200, AF-A, WB Auto 6500K flor. lights. Whenever I post process I always have to lighten the photo even though the camera says exposure is correct. Anyone have any suggestions?

thank you!
