The question has been answered. Please start a new quorum for HDR. thank you
It will ungrey if you select jpeg only. Its a Nikon thing. I was using jpeg standard and Nef as a default and found the HDR (page 191 manual) greyed . You can use it for JPEG only but the effects are good. I have not experimented further apart from putting it under favourites. Now you have to decide between taking three bracket or use the D-Lighting. I just noticed watching a video that I did not receive the flash cap for the camera . My sales person tells me they don't come with the camera anymore?
After talking to Nikon it seems to be my problem but I have not finished my testing. My c2 custom was set to infinity and for some reason would not change. On a full battery it now changes and I have adjusted it to 6sec and I notice that both the back light and the meter go off. I hope this is the end of it?
On further investigation I have found another possible cause of the battery drain.
Now I am suspect that the night light feature is draining my battery when I forget to turn it off manually. Does this feature have a timed delay setting? I don't see the night light in the day time and if I throw it in my camera bag why is my battery dead when I get home? If so where is the setting and why is there no auto turn off? if I am not paying attention and turn my camera on too quickly I often don't notice that I am turning for the night light. so I notice if the camera is on when I put it away is it the meter that is draining the battery or the night light? More tests necessary?
I have had my D500 several weeks now. When I bought it I noticed there were already hundreds of shutter releases. I used a Lexar 64sd 633x at the start. I have a EL15 Li-ion20 type battery. Everything was wrapped and new. I ordered a Lexar xqd 2933x 64 from Japan and kept the sd for overflow. I noticed the battery drained in less than a day where as before I could go all day shooting over 1000 images set for raw and jpeg. I may have left the camera on over night by mistake. I noticed only one jam on the first day of rapid shooing. I assumed it was the cache and did not see another problem till it jammed (no shutter release) again and found the battery on low. I have been using the camera to transfer the files from the XQD. The first time the transfer was excellent and the second time it was very slow. I cannot find a shutoff on the power for the camera . I have just turned the camera off but am used to just leaving it on. I am getting nervous taking this camera out, as now I definitely need a backup (d300s) or an extra battery? My purpose for writing is that I have not upgraded the firmware and have not contacted Nikon. If anyone can similar problems then please reply. Maybe I should be taking the battery out when not in use but then that would be highly disappointing. I have been working in photography for many years and have retail experience but sometimes it is the simplest solution that is the best.
