On the way home from work yesterday, I suddenly got the bright idea to walk from Downtown Minneapolis to New Hope. It was an easy walk pre-covid but I got lazy during the shutdown--going from 70+ miles per week to under 20.
So I'm huffing and puffing and feeling generally miserable when a guy on a bike told me that I was about to run into two deer feeding.
This was my favorite.
There was another that seemed sharper but I couldn't see both of their eyes.

Nice shots. There's never a last lens!

I think you may be right there. I came across a couple of deer feeding yesterday and started dreaming of a 200mm f4 or perhaps a 70-200.

Great shots! But it’s always dangerous to declare that there will be no future acquisitions!

Well....I was kind of thinking of something around 200mm or so.....

KEH dropped off my near-mint condition AF-S 85 1.8g lens on Monday. I've been wanting to try flower photography and was leaning towards the 105 2.8 macro, but in the end, I wimped out because it was a couple hundred more.

So I headed out to our local flower garden and got these.

Very different art form. You processed it perfectly, nice but not overdone.

Thank you. Believe me, I was very tempted to go over the top.

I woke up the other morning and noticed that the clouds were looking rather nice so I took a quick visit to the Walker Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis.

I didn't want to be late for work and so only had 10 minutes to spare. I managed to grab 2 shots of the bridge, put away my camera, and run to the bus stop.

I've been editing over and over since then--wanting to add drama to the clouds but not wanting to over-do things.

I had the opportunity to go back today. The air quality is crap in Minneapolis today so I didn't stay long. I mainly focused on trying different angles

When I drove, I often drove past Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. I never noticed a beautiful area called the Lyndale Park Peace Garden.

My only issue with the area is that the most beautiful parts make for some boring photos.

When I was researching ultrawide lenses, the biggest warning was that you can end up with a lot of distractions if you are not careful--it shows in many of the images I took that day. These are some of my favorites.

What you are doing is an excellent challenge to every photographer! Choose a lens to use for the day. Expand your mind/eyes to look for pictures to fit this image format. It can be quite a difficult task. But, it will begin to force you to see and think 'out of the box'. It might even encourage you to use your ultrawide more often because you 'pre-visualized the wide or mid-tele format image of your camera.

I have a 15 to 30mm zoom that was purchased because of a planned trip to Yosemite. It was used there for some images, as intended. And, I need to 'dust it off' and do this kind of exercise to look for images that it can take and I should make with it while home or more nearby than Yosemite. - Or it will sit in the dark, unused. And I will be the loser.

My plan was to shoot exclusively with this lens for at least a month. I'm considering adding one more lens--another prime in the 100-150 range and I'll likey keep that on my camera for a while.

My latest target was the Earle T Anderson Jr Bridge in Maple Grove, MN. I was hoping for something different than what I normally photograph. I've noticed that there is not much variation in the locations that are accessible to me with no car.

I'm hoping to visit the boundary waters next spring.

So Fedex dropped off my Tokina 11-16 2.8 yesterday but I was too tired to do anything with it. Today, I returned to the Normandale Japanese Gardens to try it out.

Everyone warned me that 11-16 was really wide, even on a crop sensor and now I know. I took a few shots and got a bit frustrated that the layout of the gardens really didn't allow me to get as close as I needed to for some of the shots I tried to get.
So I sat on a bench for 10 minutes just looking at the lens--hearing Uncle Ben's voice in my head saying "With great power comes great responsibility."

So I took a few shots, went home, and loaded them into Raw Therapee.

I'm definitely going to have practice with this one, but I think I'm going to like it.

Why, what type of photo were you thinking of. Have you taken photos with a lens that wide before. A lens of that focal length is great when you have a foreground subject/object relatively close to your lens. Everything beyond that will start to get pretty small.

After I sold my dslr, I shot with a smartphone for a few years and really fell in love with the landscape images it produced--the angle of view at least. I love the distorted look of ultra-wides and look forward to the challenge.

The lens is now safely in Minnesota and should be delivered tomorrow. I'll most likely go back to the gardens to try it out.

I took a quick trip to the Normandale Japanese Gardens and was pleased the find them almost empty. It is beautiful there, but I found it difficult to get the image I wanted with my 50mm on a DX body.

I have a Tokina 11-16 on order from KEH--I should be out experimenting with it right now, but it spent the last week sitting in a Fedex facility in Austell, GA. I'm hoping to finally receive it on Monday.

Nice shot.
Keep up the good work and don’t let tremors get you down. I also deal with them and find a tripod and remote release the best solution. I also use higher ISO and shutter speeds to shoot hand held. Don’t give up, keep on shooting and enjoy the results.

I should have bought a tripod a while ago--I gave my old one to a friend when it seemed that I'd never come up with the funds to replace my d7100.
My new Tokina 11-16 should be coming next week so I'm spent out for a little while but the tripod will be my next purchase.
