My Epson Stylus Pro 3880 has suddenly begun to leave wet black ink marks down the right side of the print. Epson support had no insight. Anyone else have this happen? Thanks.

Most Epson printers do not include the print head with the ink cartridge like many other printers do and are prone have clog and smear due to ink residue left on and inside the print head. I had one many years ago and after a couple of replacements now I stick with Canon and HP.

You can't view or print a raw file. The raw file contains data, not an image. That is why it is called a "raw file." Your computer operating system checks the extension on any file you try to open, and if your operating system doesn't have an application that is compatible with the file extension, it doesn't know how to process the data contained in the file. In addition, each camera manufacturer uses a different format for the data contained in its camera's raw file. Some camera manufacturers use multiple data formats (different formats for different series of cameras they make).

Raw data from a digital camera must be processed to produce an image that can be displayed or printed. Your digital camera uses algorithms to convert data contained in the raw file into a low quality jpeg image that is displayed on the back of your camera. All raw file processors also use algorithms to process raw file data into viewable or printable images. Different raw file processors use different algorithms.

Windows 10 has photo codecs built into Windows File Explorer or that can be added, (CR2 was built into my last Windows 10 computer). This allows the display of my Canon CR2 raw as well as jpeg images in File Explorer. I couldn't find what other raw files it could convert to images.

I live in San Antonio and in the Spring, I love to travel to the Hill Country to make photos of the Spring Flowers. Hope you enjoy them! Some were taken with an older iPhone but I now use an iPhone 7 Plus. I use several post editing apps, but my favorite is Snapseed. So much to learn! Sending more in Part 2.

Lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for the last 25 years of the last century and remember the beautiful native flowers. In our area the Bluebells were the ones I remember seeing the most of.

This PC laptop only has a 128GB SSD C: drive. Every other Spec is outstanding and should make an excellent PP PC. I have a similar Dell Gaming laptop PC on which I have a 500 SSD and a 1TB rotating HD . I am using 100 GB on the C: drive but the D:\ drive has 370 GB on it. My SSD only has the Program files, System files and Desktop files. All the files which are normally in the C:\users\ 1) Default, 2) the folder with most of your files like Documents, and pictures which has the name given that folder when the PC was setup and a third folder called Public.

You will need to do some serious Googling to find how to do this. There are some helpful Videos about moving these files around. I do recommend at least a 250 GB SS HD if you have a lot of programs. I have about 150 Apps as they are called now some large like office Apps.

I am not opposed to a shift to mirrorless cameras. But after looking carefully at a Z7 a few months ago (holding it and "messing" with it), my conclusions were mixed. I am a person who uses camera controls extensively. The smaller form factor necessarily squeezed tome things close together that I would have wished to be further apart. Lots of folks here have already made mention that we've not yet seen a "professional" mirrorless camera. And I believe that is correct. As an engineer with some experience in these matters, my conclusion is that neither the Z7 nor the Z6 has the level of ruggedness or durability that most people who make their living with those tools would require, especially over time. Let's remember...two of the big advantages that everyone talks about when discussing mirrorless are less weight and reduced size. Those advantages are both going to have to be sacrificed to achieve durability and ruggedness. So I'm guessing that we likely won't see true "professional" mirrorless cameras until the consumer technology is firmly established and its reputation can withstand larger and heavier models. At least that is how I would suggest playing the game.

A bigger problem, regardless of comments that I have read here and other places, is the exposed sensor. This is very real for working photographers opening their cameras in difficult environments, like near erupting volcanoes. It's actually very real for all of us as time passes. Sensors are incredibly sensitive components. Have you stopped to think what it means to have 50 million semiconductor devices exposed to the environment? Cleaning can be as damaging as being contaminated. Current reflex cameras provide two levels of protection for the sensor...the mirror and the shutter. Even if designs are changed to close the mechanical shutter during lens changes, contamination om the front surface of the shutter can much more easily get onto the sensor than contamination on the front surface of the mirror.

This shift in technology is almost certain to happen eventually. As we have more experience, and as our new cameras become older cameras, we'll have to see if what we got was really what we wanted.

I was born in the 30's and was taking pictures by the time I was 10. Dad was deep into photography with film processing and prints using a enlarger. Quite a lot of that skill and interest continued with me. After I got my Engineering degrees from ASU and a good paying job in California in the early 60's, I was able to move to SLRs with multiple lenses and later to have cameras like the Canon AE1. I moved to digital in non DSLR cameras in the 90's with brands like Olympus C-720 with 8 to 1 zoom and exposure controls but continued using my film SLR's. I got my first DSLR in 2014, a Canon T5, by now my favorite brand. It was the bottom of the Canon DSLR line with no controls (no touch screen) on the rear, non swing out viewing screen and all controls easily accessed using the fingers on my right hand. It has all the functionality I will ever want at a price under $500 including their Standard EFS 18 to 55 mm and their EF 75 to 300 lenses. Unless it brakes and has to be replaced I will have no reason to replace it.

Be aware that saying a PC has an i7 is like saying "I have a car". Both the i5 and i7 processors have a wide wide range of performance. I have a laptop with an i7 which has only 2 cores and runs at 2500 Ghz. Each core can process two threads of code so it operates as if it has 4 cores. Some i7's have 6 or more cores and can run at over 4 Ghz and process up to 12 threads of code at one time. Some PC's use the video processor in the main i7 or whatever processor while others have a separate much faster video processor and video memory. Ram memory and the Hard drive have the memory specified but their speed is a variable. Then you may have an SSD C: drive which doesn't have to be larger than 512 GB if there is a second hard drive of at least 1024 GB and, for Windows, you transfer all the data files to it such as My Documents and My Pictures, all the files which are normally in the C: drive under the User folder. In that case the C: drive is only used for programs and system files.
Just my opinion based on pure technical consideration.

Any Aftershot pro 3 users? and what do you think of the software?

I have and use Aftershot Pro 3 in conjunction with PrintShop which is how I understand the Corel PP software was designed to be used. There have been some comparison videos on YouTube which compared AfterShot to LightRoom and it compared favorably. Use of AfterShot as PP software by itself would perform as reported here in my opinion.

I have for the first time heard that one should not delete images from the card while it is in the camera. Because it corrupts the card? I have been doing this daily on long trips to weed out bad shots and to avoid being overwhelmed at the end of the trip. Also, when you use Lightroom, you are supposed to download images via Lightroom and Lightroom is not an easy way to deal with a huge number of new images. Anyway, I will download and then reformat the card in the camera, as suggested, if that is truly the right way to go.

I know this isn't the OP's question but it is discussed in this post. The process in question is how to move the content of the card in the camera to the computer. I have a Canon DSLR and use the Canon EOS Utility software which came with the camera to download the new photos/videos to the computer. I do this by simply connecting a Mini (not Micro, they are different and NOT interchangeable, one does come with the camera) USB cable between the camera and the computer. The Utility has been setup so it knows the sub directory the new photos are saved into, which photos have not been saved and makes a new folder in that sub directory with today's date. It saves both the jpg and CR2 raw files (my choice). My Win 10 computer has drivers built in which displays both file types. Of course the memory card(s) never gets unplugged during this process and I do not need a card reader. I do the preliminary culling in the computer and then transfer the photos I want to process to my PP software from the new folder.

I don't know if other camera vendors offer similar software or if there is any other source for it.

How many people really use the video feature of your DSLR and appreciate having it. I have a Canon 5D Mk 4 and never use the video and never will. I would so appreciate it being removed and either the price lowered or other features added. Also it is just something else to go wrong. Just interested, not looking for a debate.

I find having the camcorder video function build in to my Canon DSLR convenient. There are situations which occur while taking photos which can only be captured as a video. Example, Christmas lights at a church which includes an animated scene with lights synchronized to Christmas music.

Be Careful. I have an 12.9" iPad, about 2 years old, that cannot read a Lexar CF/SD card reader. I'm told the iPad does not have enough power to read the card reader or the CF card. Another tech told me it may be the lightning port on the iPad which cannot handle the reader. I can use an Apple SD card reader that works perfectly on the iPad but that is for SD cards only. I know the Lexar CF/SD works on an iMac with no problems. Check with Apple first then try a dealer you trust.

If the problem is the power/current required by the iPad to power the card reader and CF card then a generic USB powered hub should solve the problem. I have used this solution with Android phones and tablets but haven't tried it with an Apple iPad or iPhone. Of course a complex apple USB adapter is required for iDevices but not Android devices which have the USB function built in requiring only a simple OTG Micro to standard USB plug adapter which only contains wires plugs but no electronics. If powering the CF card reader is not the problem then this is not a solution.

The following examples assume you already have a Lightning Port USB adaptor.

Example of such a device, and there are many, is https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-7-Port-Adapter-MacBook-Splitter/dp/B072TW79NY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548123640&sr=8-1&keywords=powered+usb+3+hub+with+ac+adapter+for+iPad

Which came from this Amazon site: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=powered+usb+3+hub+with+ac+adapter+for+iPad&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Apowered+usb+3+hub+with+ac+adapter+for+iPad

Here is an inexpensive powered USB solution for iDevices which includes the Apple USB adapter and an Apple lightning port for powering the external USB device for under $20.

https://www.amazon.com/Lighting-Charging-Interface-Supporting-interfaces/dp/B07F1TRSLS/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1548124889&sr=8-15&keywords=usb+adapter+for+ipad

None of this has been tested by me but have all the good words and should work. Anything purchased from Amazon is returnable.

New Egg will now be collecting sales tax for customers in NY. That's got to be a monumental headache, considering the varying rates in different states and counties. I suspect someone is making software that does all that computing automatically.

My experience in Arizona is that only the State Sales Tax is paid on online purchases but not the City or County Sales tax. If that is true in every state which has State Sales tax the computation is simple since it is the same x% for everyone in that State.

Would that it was that simple as AMD VS Intel. Example: I'm using an i7 Intel laptop with 12 GB RAM. The i7 is a 6500U, dual core 2.5 GHz processor. You can get 4 core i5 8265U processor with a turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz. Each of these processors can handle 2 threads of code so 4 core or 8 core equivalent processing power. Without details of the processor there is no way to compare them. The same applies to AMD.

I've gotten ribbons in my photo club competition using my Olympus 3 Mp P&S camera with an 8X zoom and PP to an 8x10 print. Of course we are reminded over and over in this great forum that many things are more important then the camera.

I did upgrade to my first DSLR, a Canon T5 with the 18-55 and 70-300 mm Canon kit lenses a few years ago. This is all the camera I will ever want or need. I'll be 82 this year and I started in the 60's with Canon and other SLRs and have developed my 35mm BW film and made my own prints. I began earlier than that with a Argus C3 and a Dad who was into all those photography activities years earlier.

I am all stressed out after learning of the situation with Canon 5D Mark IV and raw files. I was shooting along just fine til I recently bought in to the idea that RAW is the only way to shoot if you are a "serious". Well I am thinking now that maybe it's a bit of hype and that most folks could not tell a raw processed shot from jpeg. I would welcome some discussion on this. Thanks

I haven't read all 10 pages of posts to see if anyone else posted this. I do this and recommended always shooting with the camera set to RAW + JPEG and using a 32 or 64 GB card, especially if the camera uses SD cards or an SD card adapter. The difference between RAW and RAW + JPEG storage requirements is small. That way you always have quick access to the JPEG for general use and are able to view them without PP software on any platform and the RAW is there if you do some PP. Of course in you never intend to perform any PP then only shoot JPEG.
