Ball heads are not good for monopods. They cannot be used in a unlocked position because they are unsteady and not balanced. Ball heads and monopods are like oil and water, they do not mix well.

TOTALLY untrue statement.... A pistol grip ball head is LOCKED and steady... DOGMATIC statements like these are not useful.

Yes...in fact it is one of the few times I will use a ball head...for my monopod setup.

Here's an interesting hybrid solution I am thinking of picking up...it allows you a ball head experience via monopod...but allows you to instantly go handheld...and vice versa.

That is a pretty cool gadget... Very easy on/off. Just keep your hand up there on the ball area in case it wants to bounce out. I think there are a lot of different setups for a ball head on a monopod... I have been looking now for about an hour for a pic of my Bogen 3018 lashed to my deck railing with the straps and sporting a 300mm lens... So much for a half arsed filing system.

If I’m using a monopod it’s with a long lens, usually a zoom, so my left hand will be under the lens on the zoom ring. 98% of the time I shoot handheld. When I don’t I can use the monogimbal and it keeps the camera and long lens balanced and easy to use. A monopod is no substitute for a tripod. A monopod is just for support. A tripod is for stability. As for strapping to a tree or sign or fence post, I have a Platypod for that.

Hey, I am just passing on USEFUL info... We all have our favorite setups. But I cannot emphasize enough how well a ballhead works on a monopod. Makes a nice walking stick also...

Yep, I don’t get using a ball head on a monopod.

Actually once you try it I think you may like it in certain situations... I have an older Bogen 3018 which I attach a Slik pistol grip ball head with Arca quick release. Left hand controls camera with pistol grip and right hand operates controls... NO limitations on angle of pod or terrain. VERY quick if you are following something. A couple velcro straps with buckles kept wrapped around monopod allows attaching to fence rail, post, etc... for duty as a more stable mount if needed. I cannot overemphasize how well this ballhead works on a monopod.

I have a Leophoto tripod head bought on recommendation of Gene51 and am SO pleased with their products...

That affordability is also a problem here in Podunk, TN. Housing prices and rents are just out of hand.

REALLY nice and crisp in download... I like the line of the dike extending from rear of statue into background. Wish I could play with some Fuji gear but I have too much on my plate now... I can relate to this set as I grew up in St. Louis.

We feel the same way here! Now the beaches are turned into condos (the plates you see in june) and farm land turned into housing developments inland. Where are these people going to get water? Waste management? Where will thier feces go? I've seen 10000 acre lots off I-75 with 3 almost complete ruin while there are no grocery stores and most roads are two lanes for farm equipment for anything from strawberries and beans to cattle. Most annoying to me is the sell off of small motels across entire towns already suffering from traffic wanting to expand and build more with out explanation of water and sewage at the very least. Traffic in Florida now is ridiculous and it dosnt matter what kind of roads they build, the clueless still make life miserable. Any time a friend is moving back north ,I ask if they could get a few more to go with them and see if each of those friends could get thier friends to move back North where everyone and everything is better.hate watching all the beach town being destroyed by greed and market, but it has also moved predator animals into housing developments. Damn sorry for the rant. Lol

I totally agree.... Lived in Pinellas county from 1960 till 2008. Worked and retired from Pinellas county utilities. Even decades ago salt water intrusion was a big concern... Certain wells off Keystone road in well fields were being shut down even back then. On another note sinkholes are a big problem with the voids created... How do I know, my ex son in law is a sinkhole attorney. Managing gray water during off growing seasons was a nightmare with golf course ponds containing and holding excess. My daughter says traffic is almost unbearable in north county now. As you stated though, Folks want to migrate to where the living is better, but overcrowding etc... always sneaks up on you. If everyone hates DeSantis and his policies WHY are they flocking to FL ? STAY up in NY or out in California. No one will miss you. I myself have a little cabin on 2 acres up on a mountain... traffic has not increased in 16 years on my little road... NO property taxes, Great neighbors and a relaxed lifestyle. Just like cameras, we all make some compromises.

Second Mangrove shot got me homesick looking across Tampa bay .... GREAT point of views... I kept looking UP then ACROSS and then UP again. Small barnacled pier and reflection is another REALLY nice capture; my fav. artistic wise. Great set .

We all just cannot switch because the GAS gauge lights up... As a tripod based, DSLR non IBIS, my 6D will just have to accommodate the very best lenses I cannot afford.

It is the photographer, not the camera, Bob.

Well, maybe just a little.... Actually what I was showing was an image from what I believe was a 6mp camera over 20 years old... I was amazed at the clarity of the fuji lens on the HP point and shoot... In my mental fog I was talking MB instead of MP. Actually, I am still a lens guy first... Paul's drill down on MB vs. MP was very informative.
