Excellent portrait, only the color of the nail polish is very distracting.

Here are two shots with a D7000, 18-200mm. The first is with a Green.L (brand name) ND4 filter, and the second is without a filter. As you can see the first (filtered) image is darker.

I shot at shutter priority 1/80. With the filter, the camera chose f/5.6, and without a filter, it chose f/10.0.

I don't like the looks of the ND4 image. Bad filter?

It looks to me like the filter is doing what it's supposed to do but I agree with you in that I personally like the shot without the filter better primarily because of color, clarity differences!

Yeah, there is a definite color shift.

From what I have understood the ND filters are used to attain a slower shutter speeds in bright conditions to blur movement. I've only seen them used in manual mode to set the apeture and shutter speed.

I have Metz, great units, never let me down doing weddings and team photos.

Another Newfie with a vote for Metz. The quaity of the higher-end Metz units I've used are as good or better than the major camera makers' units. I used a Metz CT 60 with a Hasselblad medium format camera back in the 80's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230786585861+&item=230786585861&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466

Great flash the 60CT4. All manual settings no fancy controls. Used it for wedding and all sorts of studio work. I also have a Quantum and that is what I primarily use with the Metz as my back up and second flash.
Great products backed by great companies.

Has anyone used a tablet for editing your images?
This looks like the it would be perfect for the brush tool and removing blemishes etc. I was looking at the reviews for the Wacom Bamboo Capture Pen and Touch Tablet and it looks pretty cool. I'd be interested in your opinions on this or any other make/model.
Thanks,
Ed

I have been using wacom tablet product since 2001 and about 3 years ago I moved up to the wacom cintiq screen. Last year I bought the largest cintiq that there is and I love it. Unlike a tablet you actually use the screen to retouch, like you are painting on it and I love both products. I do restorations and retouching and would be hard pressed if I had to use the mouse. Great workflow products and Lr4 works with the pen tool on the screen also. Go for it, you'll love using them.

I got my Blurb photo, 140 pages, book just six days after I uploaded it to them. As far as I'm concerned, it's perfect. It is beautifully put together, and the images are at least as good as what I sent them. I chose landscape, hardcover, 8 X 10, with upgraded paper.

What software did you use to upload the pictures, Lightroom4 or their ROES software?
I would like to put a book together and that seems to be a great value for the price.
Thanks,
Carl

I remember my first Kodak Imperial it was turquoise and silver and had a little door you opened to pop in the flash bulb. Yes I remember squinting at the little red window to see how many pictures were still there to be taken. I loved that camera and took it everywhere. Had to run errands and do chores for the neighbors in order to buy and develope the film and buy the little flash bulbs. I was always amazed at how those bulbs would be blistered after they went off and you had to be careful or you'd burn your fingers removing them for the next shot.
Does anyone remember Spiratone on Northern Blvd in Queens, NY. That was the original gadget shop. They had all sorts of gizmos for taking pictures, naturally that was much later from my Kodak Imperial.

In the days of the film cameras there wasn't anything call IS or VC that came to birth with digital. We used that same rule of thumb concerning maximum focal length and shutter speed as stated. Worked well all the years I shot film.

I have a photoshoot taking action shots of horse jumping in 1.5 weeks. I am buying a printer this weekend so i can have a booth set up at the event to sell prints on site. What I was wondering is if anyone has heard if customers prefer matte or gloss finish?? When I worked as a photographer 12 years ago the company I worked for printed gloss prints on-site at sporting events so now that I am just starting my new business I wanted to see if other photographers opions were about what's popular now. Thank you :)

I have taken some Equestrian events and I've found gloss really gave the photo a snap. I found absolutely no problem with glare, the photos are tact sharp and well saturated with color.

This question has probably been asked before but here goes - I have been asked to print out some photos to be hung in a public area and would like your comments as to which is better - mat or glossy. The photos will be in under plain glass with no mat or frame. Thank you.

Displaying photos under plain glass tends to render the view as a glossy print. If you can use non-glare glass, then your matte photos will look more like the printed version.
