Have you considered a remote shutter release? Sometimes just touching the camera to release the shutter can cause just enough movement to slightly blur the picture. Worth a try?

Shooting so close to your subject is going to give you a pretty shallow depth of field. I'd try using a smaller aperature (higher number) and set your focus manually. It may help. Always fun to "break in" a new piece of equipment.
