Thanks for that thought.

I’m going to stick with Nikon, if for no other reason, for the practical ability to share/swap with an existing bag.

Possibly a blessing in disguise, as I would be very tempted to take a hard look at both Stoney and Canon. And drive myself cross eyed in the process.

Not a pre-Christmas purchase, but a post holidays self-indulgence.

If I were convinced this would be my last body, I’d go Z-7ii.
A Z6II will get me back into full frame and leave some money to, at minimum, get the Wide Angle replaced.
I hate buying a lens that doesn’t go on the D7100, but I equally hate not taking advantage of the weight advantage of a Z-Lens.
By next year, (I hope) the Z6II might become the ‘back-up’ body. {Assuming the glass is in place to my satisfaction by then} and I’ll spoil myself with the Z9. (Maybe, …. I could also become satisfied with the 6ii and just find other ways to blow $5,500! (A lot of money for non-commercial use)
I’m no longer living with a camera 24/7 and don’t have a legitimate need for a body of that class. (Need and Want are opposing forces, ha, ha)

Unless I’m missing something,
All our lenses are AF-S and should work with the adapter. Actually have 1 Body (d5000) that can’t auto focus. (Ugh that was an impulse purchase as a back-up, but for short money)

I miss the ultra-wide, (16-35) and will need to replace. That may end up getting replaced with a Z lens… (z 14-24) even though it won’t go on the D7100. Or maybe I’ll look at an AF-S 14-24 and the ATZ converter… she is very comfortable (happy) with the slr body, and the used market is full of great bodies…
Really, my primary objective is a wide lens on a full frame sensor. The mirror or no-mirror shouldn’t be my concern. Any full frame body that can support AF-S glass is going to give me the results…
The Z series is lighter, and more future proof, but AF-S glass will outlast me.

Thanks, (everyone) for the replies.
Consensus follows my instincts, I just need to stop reading reviews and do it.

Was a devoted Canon shooter for years, prior to to transition away from film.
Then became a Nikon nut, with my wife using crop sensors and me with a Full Format (D810).
My bag stolen from my car, the 810 and my favorite 2-lenses never replaced, my phone became my ‘everyday’ camera.
I had the crop (D7100 and a D5000) and some good glass if needed.
Added a Drone with Hasselblad camera, and a gimbal for the iPhone.

But holding a screen and having no Viewfinder (not to mention the entire symphony of settings, feel, and file size/selections) leaves me craving
A ‘real’ camera (of my own, not shared) and better glass.

My real need for a pro level body no longer as much business as it is pleasure.

So I was thinking just get another 810; (well, an 850 now)
Or even go back to Canon.

Just doesn’t make practical sense, to go Canon, or anything other than Nikon I’d have to spend $8-$10,000 just on glass plus a body, and no back-up, body…

So; I’ve convinced myself that a Full Frame Nikon Mirrorless is the proper choice, with a couple basic lenses. Z 17-28 and maybe a Z 28-75. But with an adaptor, I have all the existing (slr ) AF glass available…
Not a lot of choices in the Z-line of lenses, but maybe for a good reason
So probably just an adaptor for starters.

Body choice still up in the air,

I’d welcome any thoughts.

Yes, I am influenced by the camera feature. Currently an iPhone 6 user it is time to upgrade the phone for a few reasons; camera being only one of the reasons. Apps on 11 will be faster, screen will be bigger, battery life will be longer, etc. The 6 still works fine, for 85% of my needs/use, but the 15% has me willing:
At Disney World, the App on the 6 is frustrating, as well as other apps I use regularly. The camera is an influencing bonus. Using Disney (vacation time) again as an example: the phone camera is more than adequate for snapshots (and Disney will take photos with a DSLR free all over all 4-parks)
When on vacation, I want to be a Tourist! When I carry DSLR, or Full Frame Mirrorless, Camera(s) I’m no longer on vacation… I’m working.
I NEED to separate work from Vacation time. And I do not need to print mural sized copies of my vacation.
It is still a pleasure to shoot with a Full Frame Body with real Glass, and revel in the quality and ability to use the results commercially. But it is equally a pleasure to carry an 8 oz point & shoot that makes phone calls, runs apps, surfs the WWW, tracks my family, gives me on-demand GPS directions, and a few thousand other options AND helps me be in vacation mode not work mode while still maintaining a full mobile office.
The iPhone is a complimentary device, not a replacement for full-frame with interchangeable glass. And when I send a picture (or video) of a 5-year-old gleefully interacting with Mickey… or other family members, no one cares if the photo came from an iPhone, a Sony A-7 or a Nikon 850; but I would regret missing that precious moment.

Job "filled"
Quite different than as originally presented (no surprise)

Formal shoot for Engagement Party; not informal.

There is Daddy (Payer) idea of the Job
And there is Daughter (thinks Daddy handed a Blank Check) idea of the Job.

Thanks to those who replied/responded;
Apologies to those who wasted their time;
Good luck to the 'winner' who was able to negotiate a realistic compromise of time and fee.

A friend is looking for photographer to take family photo (Bridal Shower? or some kind of group event) in Hartford CT on August 20, 2016 Noon-2:00 P.M. (+/-, time to be arranged/agreed)
No prints, minimal post-processing (if any)
Just use decent glass and sensor, compose well with proper exposure and focus.

They have been satisfied with amateur point & shoot quality and no post processing at prior events.

Too far for me. Over 3 hours in each direction, and I have other commitments before and after.

If interested, PM or Text (774) 263-2973, or email: JimE@BRiTre.com

If not interested, no need to respond...

SS: Yes, there are two lenses available. 45mm F3.5 & 90mm F3.2 (with a 30mm promised to be released at Photokina)
Hasselblad CEO has also announced zoom lenses will be developed. An optional adaptor will accommodate existing H System Lenses.
But it sure looks like a full line of lenses will be developed to match the high resolution capability of the X1D.
Body MSRP is $8,995 bare body: $11,290 with the 45 MM f/3.5, or $13,985 with both the 45mm f3.5 & the 90 mm f/4.5 lens.

No, I will not buy you one, two, or any. Your so stuck on Canon & SLR it would be a shame to see the two quality bodies collecting dust in original packaging on your kitchen table.

LOL, and I will not be getting a pair myself. I'll wait for a zoom. (RIGHT?) And for that matter, my iPhone still is a pretty reliable Walk-About...

But tell you what: I'm more likely to have a medium format mirrorless Hassleblad in my back seat than pay-off the loan on a Tesla.

And Dylan sings in the back ground: The Times They Are A-Changin...

Has anyone else noticed this?

Hasselblad X1D-50c – Medium Format Mirrorless is Here!

A little out of my price range, but not impossible. Kind-of gives you something to save-up for.
Sure would be a nice weight reduction and make a dandy walk-around with that 45mm lens.

Hi MT... I've seen plenty folks disparage the Nikon 28-300; while I'm not arguing the virtues of a nice 2.8 lens: I have found the 28-300 to be better than it is talked about on forums such as this.
Not needing to swap lenses to go from very wide to mid-range or fairly long, the 20-300 has (to me) its own set of virtues.

I certainly would swap to better glass when conditions dictate, but for a fairly high majority of the time, the 28-300 fits the bill.

I'm not a pixel peeper so perhaps my standards are low.

What is your opinion of the 28-300?

I like MS One Drive.

In my basement are 3 dual CPU Xeon Servers: one was DC (Domain Controller) and Print Server, one was File Server with an array of SCSSI Hot Swappable drives in a RAID 5, and the other was an Exchange Server with a Partition for Terminal Services.
Other than the RAID 5 File Server, everything else was on Mirrored Hot Swappable Drives (RAID 1)

All drives also backed up to a set of SATA Drives and an off-site Tape Drive.

Everything was available to me via the internet, via a VPN Tunnel and/or Terminal Server.
Also there were Switches, VPN Router, Hardware Firewall...

So you can see I liked "Cloud Computing" long before the Cloud became popular.

I have pulled the plug(s) on all that hardware. I use One Drive and back-up to local hard drives.

I will say my private set-up was slightly faster than One Drive, but it was also a hell of a lot more costly.
Conservatively, I save $750 a year just on my electric bill. Add the cost of the Server software(s) licensing, and IT Support and the savings run into several thousand per year.

I save everything to One Drive and I back One Drive up to a 3-TB Drive on my local machine.
With One Drive I can access any file, any time, any where.
And yes it is compatible with iOS.
I can open files on my iPhone, edit, print, send, attach etc. or on a laptop, iPad, Surface...
I use MS Office 365 it comes standard with a 1-TB Cloud Drive (One Drive) Windows 10 came with 15 GB so combined I have plenty storage.

It is feasible I could load that drive with images and want for additional storage, but I store images on another drive provided by Adobe (Part of the CC Suite) Which is also backed up to a local Drive.

Therefore, all my data is available locally, if either Microsoft or Adobe go belly-up.

The option of using a personal cloud drive or a series of Personal (external network drives) is another good option.
You can buy external HD's at Best Buy for short money ($100-$125)

If I find myself in need of additional storage I will add external drives.
If I get paranoid about losing data in a catastrophe, I will purchase additional external drive(s) and install them at a relative or trusted friend location with good internet bandwidth. Set my drives to back up at 2:15 a.m. daily and be done with it.

A very nice feature of One Drive is that you can share the drive a folder or single file, password protect it and 'collaborate' at will. Instead of attaching multiple large files to an email you simply send a link. The recipient clicks on the link and has access to the files you have shared.
