I removed the camera from silent mode and fixed the wing/shutter curtain issue. Mostly I'm wondering if someone with a Z7ii has figured out a way to shoot faster than 1/2000 or if someday there might be an update that allows the camera to shoot faster than 1/2000 in electronic or mechanical shutter settings.

I have had issues with shooting hummingbirds. I went to silent mode which I understand defaults to electronic shutter open, then mechanical shutter close. Attached is an image of what a hummingbird can look like in that mode at 1/3200 of a second. I was told that I had to move to electric open and close to get rid of my curtain problem, which required me to take the camera out of silent mode. Silent mode only works in electric/mechanical shutter setting. But the only way a Nikon Z7ii or possibly all the Z's can shoot over 1/2000 of a second is in silent mode??? So I'm redlined at 1/2000 to shoot hummers?? If so, should I assume that there won't be a software update to help shutter speed?? I'd prefer to shoot at 1/2500 when it's possible.

I couldn't change to electronic shutter until I took it off "silent mode". So i did, and that fixed the problem. It's still fairly quiet. It's still oceans better then a mirror camera which quite often scared hummers away with just one shot!

Thanks to all!!

Looks like a typical shutter effect. Keep on shooting hummers and it could happen again every now and then. Are you using Silent mode ?

Yes on silent mode. I don't want to give that up. That's why I'm waiting to see what happens with continuous high mode. I just did a 10 shot sequence and it was all good, but hardly scientific.

Looks like a shutter curtain synchronization issue. It's was a problem in the Z7. But they got it fixed with an update and I guess they think it's not a problem any more? Got news for them!! I ruled out Cf Express as it does the same thing with SD. So I just switched the camera from continuous high extended to continuous high. One guy thinks that will help. But the 10 shots per second was the biggest reason I got this camera!! GRRR!! If I was shooting any thing but hummingbirds it would probably do just fine! The curtain just isn't fast enough for those wings??

I changed the standby timer from 30 seconds to 1min. I did read on a blog that the writer thought the 30 seconds was a very aggressive battery saving setting. Doesn't mean he's a genus or anything, just thought I'd try this first since it is the least intrusive on my style. I did image review from 4 sec to 20 seconds also. Don't expect the latter to have any say in the matter, but as long as I was there. Since it only shows up on hummingbird wings, I waiting for a hummer and good good rip of over 30 images in continuous mode.

I'll watch the shut off thing. That's a good tip! Even if I'm not doing that, and I never have, how about the auto shut off on the camera?? I wonder if that is adjustable, some kinda battery saver mode?? The Z7ii is the same file size, but can shoot 10 shots per second...

No I shoot in RAW.
I'm not savvy enough to send an image from camera to somewhere else. But then I never wanted to. So maybe I can research that. In the mean time should I switch to jpeg mode???

I don't know the first thing about misplaced cloning.
But I just had a hummer come by and I got off 60 shots in like 10 to 11 seconds. And reviewing the images, while still in the camera I can see some of them are already damaged, just like the ones I uploaded. I need to try something. Thinking of pulling the CF express and shoot with the older SD???

I went back to LRC and found two of the weird/damaged photos and clicked "reset" and that did not help. It's funny it's just the hummingbird wings. Everything else is fine.

I have some damaged images. I've never seen anything like these. 4 out of 50?? Is this from not formatting first???

You need a CF Express card reader … it's different than all the other readers.

I have ordered a CF Express card reader.
But I did get the current photos uploaded late last night from the camera. I like card readers. With the two card cameras, I can keep shooting and let the new photos go to the back up SD.

I use Lightroom Classic.
I just now started LRC back up and it was updating catalog file format.
So I waited for the additional "update" and tried again and LRC is working correctly!!! The new photos are uploading now.
I will format afterward as per usual???

I never had to do that with the Cf card I got for my D810. This is new. So if I do that will the photos on the card be lost???

Trying to upload my first batch of photos from my new Nikon Z7ii. It has a CF Card "Express". Different size CF Card that I used in my Nikon D810. Lightroom uploaded some old images from the new camera, from the old SD backup, no problem. But wants nothing to do with the images in the CF Express Card. I uploaded the latest update from Lightroom. I have read, google searching, that it's just not Lightroom that has problems with this card. Can someone point me in the right direction?? Do I need an upload from Nikon??
