I went to Phoenix's Desert Garden in Feb and saw his exhibit there. It was fantastic. Too bad I didn't bring my tripod to get really clear shots.

Oh I guess I didn't catch that both pictures were taken on "P" and the camera was just turned. I saw the words "portrait" and "landscape" and thought they were taken in those modes which does change the colors. My guess then is it's taken the WB calculation from the white door in the first pic and on something else in the second pic which may be a different white hence the difference in colors of the pics.
Sorry for the confusion.

Several things happen when you switch between these modes as explained here:
http://yourcontentnotes.com/2011/02/shooting-modes-canon-camera/
In portrait mode it warms the colors for good skin tone and in landscape mode it brings out the greens and blues.
That's what you're seeing.

I'm trying to figure out how to back up my pictures and I'm debating on another external hard drive or an online storage site. I know alot of people like Carbonite but I don't keep all my photos on my computer, they're all on a external drive (backed up on DVDs) and I don't want to spend $100/year to backup both the computer and external drive. I was looking at CrashPlan. It's gotten several favorable reviews and is reasonably priced. What has been your experience with this company?

I think I am getting fickle in my old age. Went ahead and purchased the Marumi 77mm CPL for my EFS 10-20. Not much blue sky right now to test it on.

Larry

Larry did you get the slim or wide 77mm CPL? Tell me how it does on the lower range of you lens.

Thanks for all the replies. My main goal is to get a decent CPL that I can use on my ultra wide angle without getting vignetting.

Here's one from Crater Lake. The sky shows the effect of a CPL on an ultra wide angle
The sky color differential is a product of sunlight near-parallel to lens on left, and near tangent to lens on right. Keeping the sun behind camera will greatly reduce this phenomenon.

I thought you were suppose to be 90 degree to the sun for a good polarization affect?

I'm looking into getting a CPL for my 11-16 mm ultra wide and I was looking at the Tiffen 77mm slim wide angle filter. Question is can I use this on my 70-200 mm lens which is also the same size? I know I need to have the slim to prevent vignetting on my ultra wide angle but I wondered if there was a downside using it for my telephoto. Thanks.

Very nice. What settings did you end up using?

Never been used, in original sealed envelopes. Received them in a new laptop computer but I had already purchased Elements 10 recently. Asking $25. I'd like payment by Paypal.

Beautiful. Was the second pic on June Lake by chance? We're going up there in a couple of weeks to do some camping and mountain biking. Can't wait. Hopefully I'll get some decent pictures too.

I'm really liking the first picture because it almost looks like you have two different focal points with blurred leaves in between. It really catches my eye. Good work.
