"Dpardue" I have a question. I mentioned this way back. What type of pictures do you want to take? A macro lens is agent lens for a walk around if you shoot insects, a 500mm is great if you shoot birds. I said earlier 28-300mm is the generalness I use, but that may not be you. We have spent 7 pages of advice and you never answer (that I saw) what type of photos you want to do.
Not trying to start any problems but, I am interested to know so we can be more helpful. Thanks

Yes - I find the 18-300mm is a good compromise. It gives a large zoom range and was $200 less than the Tamron at that time.
