Thanks to all for your knowledgable responses. This forum is invaluable to me as a relatively new photographer.

It appears that the best workflow for me is to embed the watermark from Lightroom 5 before exporting and not use a Zenfolio created watermark.

Exactly.

OK, so if I create the watermark in Lightroom 5 it will appear on the print or download? Also, is there a concern about the size and placement of watermarks for different print sizes? In other words, is it possible that some to the text of the watermark will be cutoff in some size prints?

Yes, you're correct if the maker adds text and/or a watermark in Photoshop before uploading.

But Zenfolio also can add a watermark as images upload, which does NOT get printed, which is what I was responding to (and was what the original poster mentioned it says on the Zenfolio site).

Thanks, Dngallagher So you think the watermark would print, even though Zenfolio states that prints and downloads do no include watermarks?

One way would be to add the text in Photoshop to the image that gets downloaded for print/sale.

Another would be to create a watermark graphic in PS to merge with photos (assuming a batch of photos) to act as masters on the web site so that any download/print is of the master with the watermark embedded.

I sometimes take photos of running events. The Race Director of my next shoot wants Text or a logo to appear at the bottom of finished prints and digital downloads. I have a watermark in Lightroom 5 that appears when I export to my website (hosted by Zenfolio). However, watermarks do not appear on finished prints or digital downloads. Any suggestions on how I can have the name of the race or logo appear on finished prints and downloads that I sell through my website?

This looks like a depth of field issue - the subject in focus is surrounded by objects that fall out of the depth of field available from the aperture you are using.

Really need to know what lens you are using to be able to help with this.

I previously was using the kit lens 55-200 with my Nikon D3200. I have since bought the Nikon D7100 and will be using the Tamron 18-270 and occasionally the Tamron 150-600.

Thanks to all for your thoughtful suggestions. I feel I am much better prepared for the upcoming shoot.

You need more understanding of Depth of Field. Here is an online DOF calculator, just enter in your camera, your lens, and your subject distance and it will show you the DOF you will get. Change the aperture variable to show how the DOF will change at different apertures.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for this MT Shooter. I will study this chart and learn more about DOF.

Only a small aperture will get them all in focus. Depending on the light that may mean an unacceptable ISO to get the shutter speed up high enough unless you are on a tripod. A VR lens and a monopod may do it with proper technique.

So it appears I will need to use Manual settings with a higher f stop and shutter speed, balanced with an acceptable ISO setting. I typically am on a tripod for these shoots.

No real special affects. I just want to get the sharpest pictures possible of the runners as they pass by. I do often find myself in low light situations, which can complicate things.

Thank you very much for the detailed recommendations, Steve. That's just what I needed. So you recommend the d-9 settings rather than the d-51?

I take pictures of running events such as marathons and trail runs. I notice that sometimes when multiple runners are in the frame, 1 is in focus but others are not. What focus mode and AF-area mode would you recommend to be sure all moving subjects in the frame are in foucs?

It was a pleasure doing business with Shipwreck. He shipped the lens quickly (even before receiving my check). The lens was in excellent condition, as he advertised. I would not hesitate to purchase from him in the future.

So my only question is: when the person emails you how do you identify which picture might be theirs?
