Woah, folks. We've all been through a lot with Covid. Let's not take it out on each other.

I just have a lens that I no longer use and thought I would post here. I didn't put nearly as much thought into it as you guys have. It's not that big of a deal or worth this much back and forth. I didn't expect to be critiqued and criticized. I sell it or I don't. Life is still good.

I'll negotiate price with anyone who is interested enough to come and look at it. I thought someone in this area might see the ad and be interested. I didn't ask anyone to send money to a Nigerian address.

I sent an email with details to photography clubs in larger cities in my area and got very nice replies back so I am baffled at the responses here.

If you REALLY want to talk about high prices go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and price an 8 ft. 2 x 4. Now THAT is worth discussing.

Sadly, there's a few people who think it's their job to police the for-sale section. For 'where to sell' ideas, consider Birds As Art at https://www.birdsasart.com/ where there's serious bird photographers and serious people shopping for high-end used equipment. I bought my 300 f/2.8L II there a few years ago. Check Artie's T&Cs or contact him directly for pricing ideas. Personally, I realized the 500L is the biggest I want to handle, even though your post tickled my nerve that responds to a lens like this.

Thanks. I'll check it out!

Don't ever try one of these or you'll be hooked.

That cleared up my question. I thought you only used it for the eagle.

I am smitten with eagles and that was my reason for getting into photography in the first place. I am blessed to have a nest near me and others in the area.

I was taken aback by two immediate posts questioning my validity. I expect any interested buyer to be as cautious as I am. I'll only meet under circumstances where we both feel safe such as a police department.

I can sell it on eBay but that is expensive so I thought I would post it a few places first.

I'm still curious as to why you call it a camera, and why would you buy a $12,000 lens just for one subject? Why not rent one?

It's an amazing lens and I used it for all wildlife after I retired. I did rent an earlier version a year or so before I purchased this one and fell in love with it. They are very expensive to rent so that is not a long term option.

LOL. It is a beast.

I'm female and used it on a tripod mostly. I could do a few shots hand held but for me it certainly is not a walk around lens.

I would be also if I were purchasing a lens. If interested party wants to PM me then we can talk by phone, text or whatever. I will meet at the local police department to protect both of us.

For sale: Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III. $12,000 OBO.

The eagle nest that I had access to was destroyed during strong wind and I no longer have a need for this camera.

Like new condition. Also included are the original box and case. Purchased Sept. 2019.

I am in northeast Alabama. In person / cash only. We will meet at the local police department to exchange cash/lens.

Private message me if you are interested. Thanks.

I have a Canon 600mm f/4L IS III that I plan to sell if anyone is interested. The eagle nest that I had access to blew down last year in a windstorm (thankfully after the young ones had fledged).

I will take some pictures and list it in the classifieds in a couple of days.

I would only do a cash transaction. I live in Northeast Alabama.

Thank you for this review. This is exactly the information that I was looking for. I'm considering selling my Canon 500 mm f4 II and purchasing this lens.

I'm a female and gear weight is also a big factor for me. Is this lens noticeably lighter? Nearly two pounds seems like it would make a big difference.

I purchased this lens new from B&H in October 2015 and used it for about a year before I purchased a bigger lens. It's in great shape. I'll take $1400.

I take PayPal or I am in NE Alabama if you would like to come and try it out.

That is truly stunning. How about the rest of the story? How did the Ringed neck duck get away?

Jenz,
I'm an female amateur also. I started out with a Canon 7D and 100-400 lens. When the newer 7D Mark II came out I upgraded and did the same when the 100-400 II lens came out. That is a great combination. I recently purchased a Canon f5.6 400mm lens and absolutely love it. Rarely did I ever need anything less than 400mm. The Canon 5.6 400mm is lighter and an absolute pleasure to use. I am consistently getting shots that I am proud of. I wish it had image stabilization but even without it you won't be disappointed. I got mine for $1199 from B&H new and if you could find a good used one you could pay even less.

I shoot mostly bald eagles. I shoot to get the white head correct. Often I need to lighten everything EXCEPT the head and tail. I use Photos on my Mac and have to lighten all at the same time. Does anyone have any simple program that I can use to isolate certain areas to be left alone?

I received an order from B&H via FedEx yesterday. I stayed around all day waiting for it and it arrived after dark. I was told they deliver until 8 p.m. I prefer daylight hours.

I have a Nest NT-363-CT tripod and NT-530H legs for sale. I purchased them from Camera Cottage three or four years ago and just don't like taking the time to set them up for shooting eagles. I've used them less than a dozen times and they are like new. I'll take $650 for all and will split shipping with you. I'm in northeast Alabama. Please send me a private message if you are interested.
