Well, now, Fine Art America is not a bad place. Plus, it is affiliated with several other websites, including Pixels.com and several non-American sites. You places images on one site - like FAA - and it appears on all of them. FAA offers quality products and add-ons - frames, mats, etc.
HOWEVER, there are some problems with this site. There are thousands of photographers/artists on-line at FAA. The site uses its own proprietary search engine, and it is well known that FAA's engine weights results to favor those artists/photographers who sell well.
If you have not yet sold anything, or have sold only a few items, your items will likely appear several pages in on the results listings. I searched for some of my images, using very obvious keywords, and my images showed up 12-14 pages in, if at all. I have my doubts that most shoppers will dig through 12 pages of results.
Galactic Catch-22. You cannot sell if you're not seen, and you won't be seen until you sell.
And there is at least one other somewhat troubling item. FAA sends out regular emails, and on these are listings of images/artwork that have recently sold. Once can also access such lists on the website. I have seen a number of sold items for which I feel the the seller may not have had legal rights to offer.
So, now, I use a SmugMug site. Got my own URL and I do my own SEO (search engine optimization) and my site uses the standard search engines, Google, Bing, et al.
Well, now, Fine Art America is not a bad place. Pl... (
