This is straight from Thom Hogans Nikon D7000 review. ( The D7000 had focus issues for many, but the D7100 and D7200 fixed that and added a great deal of sophistication and performance to the basic price perfect point concept.) To some standards here Thom must be a lousy photographer just like me.

Really? I do photo shows and I used to shoot with the D7000 and got really good prints for my shows.
I strongly suggest you up your shooting SKILLS or you will continue to be disappointed in your D7500 also.

Just because you got one of the better copies does not automatically mean I have bad skills. Enjoy yourself.

The D-7000 has back and front focus problems. The fine tune option does not correct it. I sent mine back to Nikon and it worked good for a few months and started doing it again. I loose about 50% of what would normally be keepers. Very frustrating. Just not reliable enough. The rest of the 7000 series are fine. I'm a Nikon guy, always have been ( even in the film days ) and still am. One bad camera wont change that.

This is to replace my Nikon D-7000 which was the most disappointing camera I ever purchased. Time to start enjoying photography again.

How cold is it in North Carolina?? It has been in the 20's here in Indiana, but I still get out on occasion

About 10° warmer than that but rainy, damp, overcast, freezing rain, snow. Just not good enough to get motivated yet. Soon though, it's the south.

That was not an issue for me as I only shoot jpeg anyways.

Good choice, tmicro. You will learn to love many of its fine features. While you are waiting for better weather, and learning your camera, can I suggest a really fine book by a man who obviously knows Nikons? The P900 by Author White. I think you will be glad you have it.

https://www.amazon.com/Photographers-Guide-Nikon-Coolpix-P900/dp/1937986489/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1517945554&sr=1-2&keywords=nikon+p900

Enjoy learning and using your new camera.

Thanks for the link. I'm actually reading that book ( ordered it a week ago, hehe). I learned a long time ago that nikon manuals leave a lot to be desired. My other favorite authors are Simon Stafford and Mike Hagen.

Just picked up a Nikon P-900. Waiting for some warmer weather to get out and start playing with it. Just learning the menu system for now. All I have ever used for camera's are SLR's and DSLR's. This one is quite different so there is a bit of a learning curve for me. Absolutely love the zoom. I'll post some pics once I get started.

Portland's Old Port is a nice place to visit. Lots of boats and vessels of all sorts. Portland head light/ Fort Williams park is also nice.
This is 40 minutes north of Kennebunkport. You have not mentioned how far you want to travel but the other great places mentioned are further north and during tourist season could takes hrs and hrs to get to.

I have had a Nikon version of the 70/200 F2.8 for 6 years now. It is still my most go to lens.It is also my walk around lens with the help of a black rapid strap. Very sharp even at 200mm.I also use a 1.4 teleconverter on it with no issues and tubes also work fine. Had to get it re-chipped when I upgraded to the D-7000 but Tamron did it for free and had it back to me in 2 weeks.I'm a very happy camper, lol

I don't think it should get in the way, but I couldn't check because mine is for the camera + grip, so it's bigger anyway. If you order from RRS or a store like B&H, they should take it back if it doesn't work for you. Get an extra plate also, it can be useful at unexpected times. At my cousin's wedding reception, his brother wanted to record video with his P&S, so we put the QR plate on and used my tripod.

Well, I checked out the L-brackets and the biggest problem I can see is the redickulous markup price on them. No way does the material and machining costs warrant that price. Fortunately, I do not shoot in portrait mode very often so I think that I will use the ball head for now and see what I think of it. I will swallow my thoughts and get the bracket in the future if I think it will improve my shooting some how. The extra QR plate is ordered. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Exactly!

Now, if you want to be studly, instead of putting a plate on the D7000, get an L-plate, so you can mount the camera in horizontal or vertical orientation. The ball head will let you put the camera vertical, but it's not as stable having the camera on the side as having centered on the tripod. RRS and Kirk make good options.

Great idea but I am wondering if the L-plate will bug me when I am hand holding my 24-70. It's a Sigma and the zoom ring is very close to the camera. Whats your thoughts?

Excellent choice, and more than enough support. If you get a second plate or replacement foot for the 70-200mm f/2.8, it will be easy to go from that to another lens.

Good idea. I can mount the extra one on my camera and one on my 70-200. that way I'm ready for the 24-70mm and the 70-200mm at all times.
