I have a Nikon Speedlight SB-700 that is a problem. When I didn't use it for a while and turned it on, nothing happened. I sent the flash to Nikon and they charged me $150 and sent it back and it worked fine. But now the same problem has happened again. I have not used it for several months. Is there something that I can do without sending it back to Nikon for repair. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am trying to use PhotoShop which I have used in the past with my D90. When I try to open a file, I get a message that the file cannot be opened and to upgrade ACRaw. But, the upgrading does not seem to work. Thanks for the help.

I have just got a Nikon D7100. In trying it out, I shot both Raw and Jpeg, and then Raw alone. However, I cannot open the raw files. Any suggestions on what I need to do. Thanks to all

This may have been covered before I became a member. But, how do you determine the shutter count of a digital camera, in particular the Nikon D7100. Thanks to all for the information.

Point Reyes Light is beautiful. But, access to it is limited to certain days. My information tells me Thursday thru Mondays. You should check this out. It is a difficult light to access--it is at the bottom of numerous steps and difficult to climb back up unless you are on the younger side and athletic. But, at 70, I did it with a couple of rests climbing the steps.

I suggest you go on the internet and access "Lighthouse Friends.com." You can search lighthouses by state and see their locations. There are a lot of good lighthouses along the Pacific Coast Highway in California.

Presently I have a D90 Nikon but am thinking of upgrading to a D7100. Everyone seems to rave about this camera except one poster recently said it is mainly a sports/action camera. I don't do sports/action photography--mainly lighthouses, covered bridges and landscapes, and people. The upgrade idea is to allow me to print larger size photos and with good clarity. Any comments will be appreciated.

Take the lighthouse tour in Delaware Bay--I believe you will see 6 lighthouses--great buffet lunch--captain gets up close and stops so you can get a good shot and from different angles--6 hour tour--submit photos to "Down The Shore Publishing" to see if you can get accepted for the New Jersey Lighthouse Calender.

Hello Ambrose,
Getting published is difficult. I have had a number of lighthouse photos published in calendars. And, I have had a few other photos published in various books. All have been unsolicited. I contact the publishers and ask if I can be of service to their needs. Few answer. But, once you get published, the publisher may contact you as to what subject they are looking for. Don't expect to get rich--I get $150 for a lighthouse in a calendar and get my name as the photographer.
There is an annual publication that is helpful --"Photographer's Market." It lists publishers by category and a short write-up as to what generally looking for and how to contact them initially. It's cost varies, but the last one that I got was $18.00 at Barnes & Nobles. Good Luck.

I have an Epson v600 and have scanned many slides with it. As to the scans per se, I can see little difference, if any, between a 600 res scan and a 2400 res scan. The proof, however, is in the printing. For, example, I have just printed an 81/2 x 11 photo of each scan. The 600 res scan is off color and is not sharp. But, the 2400 res scan is bright and sharp. The image has lettering in it, so sharpness is well noticed. If you scan the image at Full Auto Mode, rather than Pro Mode, you will notice qualities in between--color and sharpness both better than 600 res , but not as good as 2400. 4800 res even better.

You will notice the sign does not mention either copyright or trademark. So, I'm thinking reliance more on invasion of privacy. But, it's possible Pebble Beach is relying on each of the three concepts. And, hoping to win on even one, if legal action is taken. With regard to copyright, a photographer does own the copyright in the image he has taken. But, he still may not be able to market the work due to a copyright in an image created by Pebble Beach. The question is whether a court would consider the photographer's image as a derivative work under the copyright law. Is Pebble Beach bluffing--maybe. As to trademark, make a search in U. S. Trademark Office to see what it's registered for--but there is still the consideration of state trademark law and the common law for marks not registered.

There is a third consideration here--not just copyright and trademark--similar to invasion of privacy. The tree is on property owned by Pebble Beach, or that has been stated by others here. That being the case, you need to consider those statues, particularly CA, if you intend to use the image commercially. Some have apparently realized this and sought a release from Pebble Beach to no avail. It could depend, somewhat, on what Pebble Beach has done in the past to enforce its rights--taken action against others using this symbol for commercial purposes. Did Ansel Adams have a release.

mdorn--you seem to mix copyright and trademark and cause confusion--they are two separate concepts. Pebble Beach may have a copyright on the image that they made of the Lone Cypress--but, if so, they may also have lost it. It depends on when that image was first produced and whether it is covered by the old copyright law or the new one, i.e. after 1978. It's not a clear case of copyright infringement for someone to take a photo of the Lone Cypress and to use it commercially, i.e. sell prints of the photo. As to trademark protection, it depends on how Pebble Beach has used Lone Cypress over the years--to identify a golf course, shirts, gloves, etc. And, it depends on whether you are talking federal or state trademark law and where the use is--location, and what it is used on. There is not a simple answer.

The word is -copyright-, not copywrite. Registration is done in the United States Copyright Office. You need not register photos individually. A collection can be registered. Go on the internet and search "Copyright Office" for detailed information.
