"the camera attached to a black rapid shoulder strap and hanging by my side,"....please share more....send us a pic of what this looks like....i'm 72 and carry a 100-400mm sony lens - heavy for me...and i agree that the gimbal is restrictive and doesn't allow fast responses to prepare for that quick pic!

suggest watching videos on you tube...about settings and proper techniques in using this camera..also, the new a7iii is the sony you should consider -it is the most advanced full frame mirrorless camera today....try stretching your budget to $1995.

Additional suggestions: carry 2 battery chargers (with the euro plugs) with 5-6 batteries for the Sony...and always keep an extra 2 batteries on your possession when you leave your hotel with the Sony. I also ran out of memory cards a few times - especially when shooting RAW/JPEG. Finally, edit your pics each evening to remove the garbage from your cards.

I just returned from a Viking Cruise (from Amsterdam to Basel) and 8 days in the Swiss Alps with Cosmos tours...70% of the time, I used my 24-240mm...it was excellent. My f4 16-35mm was my second lens of choice - for the remaining 30%. Pics were awesome. At night, I used my tripod and took many great evening photos. Also, wherever possible, I would use supports (such as a nearby wall or handrail) to help with achieving sharp pics especially with the 24-240m zoom lens.

Just finished 3 great days in Amsterdam - catching the Viking River cruise this pm to Bern....for another 8 days...gee...someone has to do it!
The 24-240mm Sony lens worked great - especially with tripod (required for low light conditions). Tried the 100mm lens but constrained due to fluctuating distance issues.

Just bought a 24-240mm Sony....and going to Europe this afternoon - plan to use this lens with a tripod....whenever I can...also have a wide angle zoom....but don't like swapping the lenses and getting debris/dust (risking) on the sensor!

There are many great videos on YouTube....that will more than answer any question you would have about the AR7ii camera...I switched from a Nikon D7100 with 5 lenses a few months ago because I wanted the super sharp Zeiss and Sony lenses and the lesser weight than the "brick" A99 Sony or Nikon 750 or 800...they are too big, bulky and heavy - especially when you put the heavy telephoto lenses on these bricks. I have watched most of the Sony gurus on YouTube and their blogs sites and enjoyed the learning experience. I am still learning!!
You will soon benefit as well from the training materials found on the web.

Nikon D7000 has a Sony sensor (confirmed)

Chipworks.com is doing something that I always wanted to do - to teardown a camera apart. Few weeks ago they took a Nikon D7000 and documented the guts of the camera. The interesting part? The sensor model IMX071 is made by Sony (direct link to image). This is probably not a surprise, but till now I could not find a proof besides the identical DxOMark score of the D7000 and Sony a580.
