That's scary looking, what is it?

I think it's a juvenile shield bug. Was only about 2.5mm from eye-eye.

EnglishBrenda Mark Sturtevant kpmac RLSprouse Blenheim Orange JimmyTB sippyjug104 Fotoartist. Thank you all for commenting/responding. Much appreciated.

Sometimes pics taken as an afterthought are the best ones. The mounted moth from which this came repositioned over night (swung on the pin), and brought the antenna into focus. It's turned out to be one of my more satisfying shots. An easy stack, with minimal cleanup afterwards.

Absolutely beautifully stacked image! May I ask another question to learn from you, Johann? Which stacking program did you use for this 106 image stack at 50 microns?

NY

Zerene. I have no experience with any of the others, but from what I understand there's not much difference in outcome between Helicon and Zerene, which I think are the two most popular ones. PS stacking is ok for small jobs, but seems to have a problem dealing with larger stacks.

Beautifully done! It is a mystery how some manage to not have halos when stacking fuzzy subjects.

The black background helps. Apart from that it is a laborious task involving luminosity masking. It takes me FAR longer to edit/cleanup the stacked image than to execute 200 images and stack them. Thanks for commenting/looking.

From this complicated animal, evolution evolved and simplified and thus man was created.

Johann your stacked focus photo shows so many details of sensing. Consider how complicated the visual signals are with an eye so complex and proportionately large ... astounding!

Hi. Ty for looking/commenting. Each of those eyes directly attaches to a dedicated brain lobe. One can only wonder how compound eyes would have changed our reality.

What does '7um mean'?

7 micron, i.e. 7/1000 of a mm. This is the required stepsize at this level of magnification. The camera thus moves in 7 micron and takes a pic at each step.

Thanks to everybody for looking/commenting. Much appreciated.
