Great; I will take them just because I didn’t expect to need two new struts, so, the way my luck is going, I may need extra batteries!

Now, I have not bought through UglyHedgehog before. How do I arrange to pay you through PayPal and should we switch to a different message format?

Dear Newvy,
I neither need nor particularly want the lens or the batteries, but I absolutely understand that you would prefer to sell all as a lot. I think your price is fair, but it’s the end of the month and I just had a large car repair bill. Would you consider $700 for all?
Thank you for considering it,
Grace Gary

There are many photogenic sites in Lancaster County including the Central Market in downtown Lancaster, which is open Tuesday, Friday, and part of Saturday. This is a traditional farmers’ market with numerous vendors selling everything from crafts to meat. Many of the vendors are Amish or Mennonite. It is best to arrive early.

You may want to consider the Landis Valley Farm Museum, which is located just outside of town. Part of the Pennsylvania state museum system, there are many traditional farm support buildings such as a blacksmith’s shop, a general store, as well as barns and houses. The museum runs a very successful heritage seed program and you should see many unusual plants growing on the property.

The popular tourist towns of Intercourse and Blue Ball usually offer opportunities for people shots, but I would urge you to remember that the Amish do not like having their photos taken. Those that work at the Central Market have become somewhat inured to the practice, but, please, wherever you are, try to respect their religious beliefs and privacy.

The Ephrata Cloisters are in northern Lancaster County. This is another PA State Museum consisting of buildings from the late 17th and 18th century built as part of a religious commune for an Anabaptist sect. The buildings are unusual and lovely and the museum has a few living history trades such as a printing shop.

Without knowing more about your personal interests, it is hard to know what more to add, but there are quite a few covered bridges still in use in Lancaster County, the fields themselves are beautiful, Amish barns are often “decorated” with what is called the “Amish flag”— lines of drying clothes, the City of Lancaster has a rich architectural heritage with many 19th century houses, including James Buchanan’s home, Wheatland.

Lancaster is about an hour’s drive from the state capitol of Harrisburg (and not on the route to Gettysburg), but the state capitol is an exceptional building.

We lived in Knoxville for a year, and I worked in Oak Ridge. My best advice is to go beyond Nashville for any scenery shots. East Tennessee is beautiful.

Now, see, this is why those of us who live in West Tennessee don’t like East Tennesseans! 😁 It would never have ocurred to me to suggest that only West Tennessee had good scenery, especially after the OP said he didn’t want to travel more than 200 miles.

Yes, East Tennessee is lovely, but, in it’s own, lower-elevation way, so is West TN.

Besides the waterfalls, you asked for "Other" photographic opportunities.
Try the Parthenon replica there. Very beautifully done and interesting.

The Parthenon is in Nashville.

Camerapapi, I am not willing to go so far as to say that there are no waterfalls in Memphis or the surrounding area, but I am from the region and I have never heard of any. As to other things to do, Shiloh battlefield is about 100 miles from Memphis. Natchez Trace State Park is about 120 miles from Memphis. And, my personal favorite, Reelfoot Lake is about 120 miles from Memphis. If you decide on Reelfoot, contact the park to find out if they will be offering boat tours, kayak tours of the more distant areas of the park, or eagle tours while you will be there. Obviously, these are largely natural attractions. For architecture, Holly Springs, MS is a lovely small town with many handsome houses. It is about 50 miles from Memphis. There is also LaGrange, TN, which is about 60 miles away, and also lovely. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Tennessee’s best waterfalls are in East and Middle TN; I know of none near Memphis, which does not mean they do not exist but does suggest a reason why a Google search revealed nothing.

Can you provide more information on the kind of things you are looking for? Wildlife? Historic sites? And, how far are you willing to go?

I spent twenty years as a museum director and I have no idea what “museum standards” are beyond clean, neat, and undamaged. Others have put forward ways to ask the question of the art center; think about how you can do so most comfortably and call them. And, by the way, there is no reason to be embarrassed to ask: museum staff make their living providing information.

And, congratulations on being selected.

Like SB I have been to Cuba and more than once. It is a very safe country with extreme punishments for Cubans who interfere in any way with the country’s main source of hard currency, which is tourism. Follow their rules and common sense and you will not have any problems.

There are many opportunities for photography, but street photography is the most obvious. And, as with any travel photography, less is more. Not only will you find weight to be an issue, but the people with whom you travel will not wait for you to constantly change lenses.
