I tend to cover all bases. I usually look at physical maps before travel, as well as Google maps. My navigation system in the truck is run off of the AT&T cellular network. My iPhone navigation is on the T-Mobile cellular network. All of these have failed me at times. I was on a trip with my sister last fall, and she had Verizon cellular service on her phone. We still had difficulty getting to places in the mountains of TN, NC and VA. Sometimes no signal on any, or they wouldn't agree on the route. When I returned home, I pulled out my old Garmin GPS and put it in the truck, adding satellite nav to the mix. I take pride getting lost and away from cell signal sometimes, but at least I can get back now.

I can only hope you recoginze Him before that fateful day.
Anyway - I remember Brent Harder posting incredible surfing fotos, and wondering where he went.
I can only hope I will meet him someday.

Yeah, losing Brent was sad for me. We had both done mountaineering and both of our daughters were doing rock climbing back when Brent was active on UHH. We had a lot of dialog.

I really miss TreePusher. He just disappeared. I really loved his creativity and humor.

Regis has a Facebook page, but last public post is from October last year.

A great set of images, Paul.

I sold and traded most of my EF lenses for RF glass, including the EF 1.4x III, after moving to the R5 + R7 mirrorless bodies. Well, a couple of years later I discovered that I just might be able to afford a lens that I didn't think I'd ever be able to own. I purchased a used EF 500mm f/4 II big white lens at less than half the original cost. Of course, I had to repurchase a used 1.4x III extender to go with it. I think I paid a little less than what I originally sold mine for, so I wasn't too angry with myself. The extender rarely leaves the 500mm. It's a big beast, but 500mm at f/4 or 700mm at f/5.6 with extreme sharpness. They make a great combination paired with the excellent RF 100-500mm zoom which is a very close focusing lens.

I don't care for IT guys. I think IT guys are guys that work with computer but don't program and like to play god.

After 47 years in the IT industry, my teams and I were not referred to that way. "Necessary expenses" by Finance management, "police" sometimes when we encountered security or policy violations or porn, etc., but mostly as "angels" where we rescue an employee with a failed computer quickly with a replacement or a few minutes of calm resolution. FYI, there are also a lot of IT "girls".

There's a lot of truth in that one. My daughter's just gone through training her smooth coat collie from a puppy. Treat after treat.

'Anyone have any ideas of where consumer camera technology may go from here, at least without implanting a sensor and processor inside your brain?'

I think cameras have more and more, subtly, become computers posing as cameras.
So next step, gradually, more and more AI based 'in camera' software.

I suspect in another year or two I'll just be able to tell AI on my computer to create me a high-resolution photo of grizzly 399 and her cubs all standing up on hind legs and looking at me from a few yards away with the Teton mountains in the background. I won't even need a camera, expensive telephoto lens, or need to drive there to take the photo. I guess I'd better cancel that new telephoto lens I have on order.

Already, when you look on a site like Facebook, it is very difficult to determine what photos are real and what isn't.

I can't believe people replied! Amazing!

Amazing indeed. As the old saying goes, "You can't fix stupid", but many of us older guys sure like to try.

I haven't seen a single woman reply to this post. That probably tells us something!

Many Glacier is an area of Glacier NP, not a lake. Are you referring to Swiftcurrent Lake near Many Glacier lodge? That is like the top attraction area and most scenic spot in Glacier. Lodging, including campgrounds, KOA, etc. are usually fully booked a year in advance, so your chances are slim for 2024.

Be aware that the bus rides into Denali NP are only going a few miles into the park now due to the massive landslide that is taking them years to bridge over it.

We don't need to have every file on every computer available to every device.
Especially when we're away from the "home network".
If I need a particular file(s) when traveling, I'll copy them to the laptop, but that's very rare.

To each their own. I think that's why they call them "personal computers".

As I said, I store the "most important" files in OneDrive, not all. All of my archived photos, videos, etc. are not stored there. I travel a lot like on an upcoming trip of week+ in Yellowstone, then a week+ in Tetons, then on to wild horses in Utah. I can manage finances, stock portfolio, access and update photo and travel reference files, etc. since anything needed will be there on the laptop. I'm just starting to use Lightroom and only import the top pre-selected few images to it. With the Lightroom catalog in OneDrive, once I get home, the synced catalog is already there on my desktop.

It's a shame you guys are missing out on so much great functionality. I'm an avid user of OneDrive and the Microsoft account. My primary most important files are in OneDrive, automatically synced between the very secure cloud storage and between my desktop, two laptops, and my phone. Files are not automatically copied to each device, but the folder structure and pointers to the files are synced there. A file is automatically copied when you go to open it on a device, therefore on devices like my phone the files are accessible if I want them but not taking up any space. I can logon with my account to any computer anywhere and access my files.

And yes, I also use a 1-2-3+ backup strategy where I have multiple levels and frequencies of onsite/offsite backups.

Granted, I have 47 years in the IT industry which gives me an advantage in knowing how things work. After two years in retirement, I still remember some of it.

Excellent capture. I captured my first short-eared owl photos last month. Spend several hours on a pair alternating between flying around on the hunt and sitting in the grass looking around for movement of prey. Time went by fast, but I was tired from holding big lenses out the window. I've returned to the site 4 times, but no repeat performances yet.

As much as I dislike seeing AI generated images, being from a career in IT I thought I'd direct some funds specifically to the core technology company benefactors of AI and ride that financial wave for a while. It's a wild ride today after NVIDIA's quarterly results were released yesterday.
