Great close ups of the birds. It lets me see the berries, same trees I have in my front yard. Do you know the name of the tree? Mine are coming out as soon as possible. Between the bird poop and the squashed berries, the sidwalk is a constant mess! Putting in some redwoods, great trees for nesting.
Wow, similar history! Enlisted Fargo, ND, Dec '57, bootcamp in San Diego, Av Prep school in Norman and AT-A school in Memphis. 2 fighter squadrons out of Moffett and a couple of carriers out of Alameda and San Diego. Back to Memphis for AT-B school, off to Norfolk and a couple more carriers in an antisub squardon. Got to look for a freighter suspected of carrying missiles to Castro, the freighter's engine blew and it never made it out of South American waters. Ended up as an AT1 teaching at Memphis. After nearly 9 years I had had enough of the crappy morale so I got out and moved to San Jose. First wife of 10 years got tired of married life and left. She didn't want the house but my present wife of 38+ years was perfectly happy to have it. Kids matured and left, no longer needed 5 bedrooms and a 10,000 ft lot so we moved directly next door to our youngest here in Tracy. Nice having grand kids next door. I'm at mcq1@comcast.net, if you care to communicate that way.
Hey, Flyguy,
What did you crew on? I flew in S2's many years ago out of Norfolk, VS24, and a couple of old carriers.
If you guys think it looks like the masts are close to the bridge, you should see it from the flight deck for the first time. Even though your mind knows they have done this before, something says, "there ain't enough room!"
Your carrier pics take me back, fondly now.
Jim
Even though we rarely get snow, my apricot tree thinks its spring and is putting out leaf buds. Not good! This warm weather and no rain is going to screw up all of the crops.
Reminds me of why I left South Dakota many years ago. I can see the snow on a clear day 40 miles away from my central Calif home. Don't care to live in the snow but this takes me back to my childhood. Nice shots.
In 1958 I joined VF213 at Moffett Field Ca, flying F4D's and I can guarantee these were Navy aircraft, The air force never saw duty on a carrier. WWII bombing raids on Japan, notwithstanding and I think that was the Army Air Corps at the time. The old designations were around for quite a while, the F for fighter and the D for Douglas.
Can't tell about the size but the shape sure reminds me of the old USN's F4D. Wasn't supposed to be able to fly because its wings were't big enough and then someone brought up the same thought about bees.
Geez! I didn't mean to kick the hornet's nest. From what I read it is beyond the capabilities of my little S200 and I am not in a position to upgrade. Enough with the comments, please.
I have thousands of 35mm slides but I am a relative newbie when it comes to digital. I use a Canon S200 because it was cheap and gets all of the candid shots I want. While I would like to get something with a decent lens system, it simply doesn't fit my budget. But, I read the posts, admire the photos and envy the equipment in use and I keep seeing a reference to HDR. What is HDR?
Who are you trying to kid? San Francisco with out any wind? C'mon!
