I have a Black Rapid strap which I used and liked, but later discovered a Peak Design strapping system and much preferred it. Lightweight, thin and extremely strong, it uses a button system. Swings from the hip and has a few other attachments for the hip, belt, backpack as well.

When the camera is in Auto mode many of the menu features are not available. You have to go to one of the other shooting modes to use all the menu features. Removing and replacing the battery is not necessary. Simple selecting one of the other shooting modes like TV, AV or Manual is all that is necessary.

I discovered this while I was shooting in Auto mode with a flash and tried to select a menu item. I haven't mastered the flash yet so I shoot in Auto mode when I use it so as not to ruin any pictures. Since I shoot 90+% candid shots when using my flash there are no second chances.

Thanks. I was aware of the limited availability of functions in the Auto mode as I too have used them, but when I went back to Av mode, the same functions I wanted to use were STILL blanked out! Not even the "clear all settings" worked. Somehow, going back to Auto, then back to Av corrected everything! Will speak to Canon later about this.

I am for it! Keep us posted.

Very, very odd. I turned the camera off, replaced the battery, nothing.....same problem. I noticed a number of functions were blanked out. I even engaged the "clear all camera settings" button, but that didn't even work....that is, nothing happened. I then put the A+ (Fully automatic) mode on, then back to Av and, VOILA, all functions were available.?????? Have no idea what went wrong in the first place, nor how or why all was righted by what I did. I also have a query in to the Canon people and expect to hear so,etching tomorrow sometime.

Are you in Auto? See page 142 of your manual. Page 202 has a neat trick for you too. Happy New Year!

This is the correct page in the manual, but my camera's ALO line item is blanked out. Maybe I need a resort to camera defaults button.

Thanks....great suggestion. Friend is looking for a bit faster lens. May consider now a Sony RX100 at a 1.8 and on sale.

On behalf of a friend in Denmark, I'm looking for advice for digital compact cameras (fixed Lens). It must be small enough to fit in a coat pocket; have a very fast lens (for a digital camera); a digital zoom; an intelligent auto mode; plus all the other mode features; Shutter, aperture priority, manual, program and a lot of "scenes" and finally a great movie mode. No more than about $500. Canon S-210 is out. He doesn't care about wifi, gps, and other electronic fixings. Any ideas?

We went to the Galapagos October a year ago. I don't know if the weather conditions are very different at that time of year to when you are going, but I have a Canon 5D Mk 11 and assorted lenses, and didn't have any problem ever with fogging or condensation in moving from our cabin inside the ship to the outdoors/deck. I only use plastic bags in places like Norway/Iceland etc. where you come from the warmth into the very cold, and vice versa. They are certainly necessary then.

Very helpful. Thanks. I too will be on a cruise so these comments help.

Let us know how your trip was when you return. I'm going to the Galapagos next year too but we've decided to go during the dry season.

Traveling to the Galapagos in late February and recalled an instance on a trip to Hawaii about 5 years ago when my Nikon D200 totally fogged up presumably with moisture in the lens and had to be sent in for repair/cleaning. How best to prepare for a different outcome as I'm so looking forward to a photo session at the equator? Will this not be an issue with the Mark III?
