The best way to learn Photomatix is to keep messing with it, experiment, and see what all those sliders do.There are no wrong settings, only ones that do something other than what you want. I use Photomatix often to improve my photos. and most of the time I'm working on a single picture, not a true HDR with 3 or more shots at different exposures. And yes, thats a great shot you posted.

I got Essentials, then the regular version, then the Pro. The Pro offers more choices as to how the image is processed.
And yes, I use it on single shots more than true HDR. It does stuff that most other editors dont, and does it well.

The images look so other-worldly! And beautiful!
Very well captured and processed.

One last thing to keep in mind...the camera must be simple enough for others to use...since you want to be in some of the images...and yes, that is a rubber chicken...Google the back of my shirt if you need to know more.

Look, Maaaannnn... the first pic is a really good one..I guess you never noticed the sky BEHIND the 'fisher... so what if you have a really short depth of field? The in-focus eye looking down so intently...Its an action shot... content and composition are more important than perfect focus. Give yourself some darn credit, will ya???

First off, I did not take these pictures. I am posting them for two reasons: 1) They are really amazing, beautiful pictures that could inspire you to experiment..
2) Yer dern tootin' I wish I took 'em!!

What I really like about Nik is that I can use the range of exposures without it being grunge-obvious. A couple of the images that have been posted in this forum were, to me, too dark in the foreground. I could rectify that with Nik software. This, of course, highly subjective, so I may be out of sync with the person who created the image.

Right. I think I know the pics you mean and I thought the same thing about the foreground...and they had "That HDR Look" that I am getting kinda tired of... really takes a gentle hand and a sharp eye to avoid... happens way too easy. But, as you say, this is very subjective and the author/photographer may really like them that way!

Nice result.

Thanks! I agree with you about the grunge thing...I played with it when I first got the demo version, but soon tired of it and...if I were a painter I guess you'd call me a realist.
