To my knowledge, the main concern has to do with the ability to have the manufacturer service the camera if needed, not so much the "warranty" issue. Nikon will not service Gray market cameras, BUT Canon will.

The last info I had for a contact at Adorama to handle such problems was Helen@Adorama.com

Don't know if she is still there, but if not, then ask for someone in a managerial position.

Most newer computers are able to handle files from cameras the same age or older. If the camera came out after the computer (or the installed OS), you might need to update.

Thanks for the info, however a Nikon D300s qualify s as being in the "same age or older" group.

Anything that shows up in Windows Explorer is not automatically "downloaded" or copied to the hard drive.
One has to copy files manually from one drive (location) to another.
How did you try to copy (transfer)?

Seems like things are getting complicated. All I know is the picture transfers to the computer from the card reader and a directive pops-up on the screen asking what I want to download i.e. all pics, those not previously downloaded, etc.

Again...I ask, if you have a simple system that works on one camera, do you normally have to go through some type of changes when you get a new camera?

When was the last time you updated your photo reading software? Often newer cameras are not recognized by older versions.

Don't know if this answers the question, but we recently got a new computer with Windows 10 with its incorporated Photo software. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done for me.

When you insert the card from the Canon, does it appear - is it accessible - on your computer? Can you open it and see what's on the card? You shouldn't need a driver.

Jerry: I can't totally remember now, but as I can remember, it just doesn't download. Can't bring the picture up.

Guess my question is - if you have a set up that works for you, can you switch cameras all day long and get their pictures downloaded.....or do you have to make changes to accommodate the different cameras.

As you can tell, I am IT challenged.

What are you using to copy?
Windows?
A Nikon software package that may not recognize .CR2/.CR3 files or the Canon directory structure where they exist?

"Can't download" does not give a lot of information about what you are doing in order to try and figure things out. (Like telling the mechanic "My car won't start.".)

As best as I can explain - I take the picture, remove the card from the camera and insert into Card Reader which is connected to the windows 10 computer. Normally (I use the software provided by MS) it activates a screen which has me directing what I want done...download, etc.

I use a Nikon D300s, and my friend's camera is a Canon 6D.

Does a "driver" come into play with this?

Have Windows 10 operating system. I shoot with Nikon. Over the years, have had no problem with downloading the Nikon pics from a Card Reader.

Borrowed a friend's Canon but was not able to download. Nikon - Yes; Canon - No

What's up? What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance.

Are the current Nikon sale prices pretty good for a D500 and D7500? Are they once a year?

How would folks compare the quality of the 180140 lens that can come with the sales cameras vs an older 18-200 VR lens? ie, it's "on sale" too and is it a good lens and is the price pretty good?

Thanks

I'm getting the urge for an upgrade to the D500. I'm kind of waiting for X-Mas sales that might include a Free battery grip.

Expected number of clicks - not a guarantee, just an estimate.

Get the shutter count -

http://regex.info/exif.cgi
Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info. Or you can just press I and/or E to get lots of info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

As I read through the daily digests from day-to-day, there seems to be a stream of questions regarding the camera's workings. I think it is agreed that the cameras of today are becoming (or have become) small hand held computers. To my mind, their complexity takes away from the true art of photography. Seems like we often spend more time fooling around with trying to figure out the workings of the camera then in taking the best photograph we can. Maybe I'm just a "good old days" kind of guy.

Your thoughts.

I know its a pain because you want something that is perfect, but the positive is, you'll always be able to ID the camera as being yours because of the schmutz.

My comfort level is when the item indicates that it is serviced by Amazon....not the initial seller.
