That is exactly what I meant in a reply on July 15:

You're exactly right. I'll start buying nice Nikon products and the lenses should fit fine.
Especially like the Sigmas and Nikkors like I already have.

I love my Nikons and all I wanted to know was if there were comparable lenses available.
I've figured it out and I understand that keeping the Nikon and waiting to buy a better
zoom is my best choice.

Outstanding speters ! This is what my thread topic is. How amazing is that.
Do you have a link so I can find one? Everyone so far says I cannot fit a Canon lens to a Nikon body.
Where did you find this adapter ?

I think you are all right about finding one that would work. My action shots have turned out
pretty nice actually even using the 3D setting on the screen. Once I adjust for contrast and a little
color, DOF is great. I have found through Amazon a bunch of Sigmas for all cameras, Nikon,
Canon, Pentax, etc...and they start about $800. and go up. here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_12?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=nikon%2050-500mm&sprefix=nikon+50-500%2Celectronics%2C586&rh=i%3Aelectronics%2Ck%3Anikon%2050-500mm

I've not owned a lens that cost more than the camera as yet, however
I may just have to buy my base lens and keep the rest for portraits.
Thanks for all the input. 8-)

Perhaps I may have wanted something that was never made or considered in the first place. However that is, I do have a Sigma 70-300mm which is pretty heavy. It's usually mounted along with the tripod.
I do enjoy it however, when I use the Vivitar 2x extender, I cannot use the AF on the lens. It has trouble recognizing the distance of the subject. I have to use the MF to get the absolute greatest distance out of it. On the final pic, there is a slight bokeh around the edges which looks like a vintage shadow frame. It doesn't happen all the time.
The Nikkor lenses are quite nice and I didn't realize the higher end quality of them compared to Canon.
Thanks a lot for making that clear. $6k will buy 9 of my cameras using the Nikkor lens.

RATS !! Wonder why that is ?
Nikon makes a couple of nice red cameras and some great 'big' lenses. Canon make some real nice cameras
and some nice white lenses but, no one can make an adapter for the retrofit of similar lenses ?
Vivitar makes a real neat 2x doubler for Nikon and Canon, third party, no less.
Seems odd, doesn't it ?? 8-)

I have seen some dynamite Canon lenses and would not mind having one on my Nikon D5100.
I have not seen where one can buy a nice super-telephoto for these Nikons.
I have tried at Amazon but no luck even typing everything possible for it to come up.
Adapters ? Yep. For the Canons to retrofit Nikon lenses. I would not mind owning a 70-500mm
or something close.

Has anyone a clue for this idea OR am I shooting towards the sun ?? 8-)

Hi JRM ! What part of Newberry county would that be ? I have several friends and some baseball players from Newberry.
Our American Legion team sports a few players from there.
I've been through the county taking tons of pix of farms and landscapes not too remote but more close to downtown.

Mornin' to you both Hal and Rich.
Well now, this is turning out to be an extraordinary experience. Two folks who live close by and so many enlightened and welcoming people who have a great outlook using similar cameras.
I, for one, am slowly approaching the full-frame paradigm shift in my own world and learning based on my total experience.
Just last night, I enjoyed taking motion shots on my D5100 with a Sigma 70-300mm zoom. It was a baseball game at night
and I learned that when using the 'motion icon' on the dial for speedy shots does not work so fast at night as the 'shutter priority' mode does at night. Also, using the 'manual' (M) mode, f/4, and speed at about 1/150th, ISO at 500 also works a little better.

Who knows, I may even find another setting. Perhaps 'movie mode' then pick a frame to be a photo.
Gosh guys, imagine 4 settings to get the same exact framed shot from one batter.
My Nikon life is getting better. In fact !! , the night shots under the lights are so much better with the contrast than shooting the same thing during the day. The darkend sky, full stadium lights, colorful uniforms and my unbeatable team sure provides a great game to shoot.
I have many motion shots at night to share that I like better than daytime. I'lll submit some soon in the "photos" section and maybe some farm landscapes, too.

I'll be in touch,
Film at 11pm.

Hey Sarge
I bought a Vello Shutterboss last Fall just before Labor Day and
let me tell you what I did - - - The first idea I had when I bought
it was to work on a time lapse photo-shoot.
In a small town just North of us in Chapin, SC there was a music and dance
competition under a large tent the next day. A friend of mine is a professional
sound tech and was setting up inside the tent getting the lights and sound
ready to go. I asked first if he minded that I take some action shots every few seconds.

Here's what I did : got the Vello to take a shot every 30 seconds while 5 people worked
feverishly for several hours under the tent - no breeze !!
For about 3 hours, the camera took about 500 or 600 shots and I had quite the job
once I got home. A couple of days to work out the kinks and the program I used did
a smashing job.

Remember Charlie Chaplin movies ? It looked a lot like that.
Now, the camera that I used was a Nikon D5100 set on Auto using a Nikkor 70-300mm
zoom sitting on a Davis & Sanford pod with a V-12 fluid head. I really love the Shutterboss
and use it when I know there is time to sit back and watch and listen.

I've also done the same thing with a sunset over our local Lake Murray near Irmo, SC
and Lexington, SC. Please make sure you have a UV lens for those shots.

Food for thought. 8-)

I can only add a small part here since I've been doing some research on motion cameras and off-road, rugged types.
A brand that you should seriously consider is GoPro. Their prices start about $300 and add ons can be great.
Several to choose from. The best place I know to start would be Amazon.
Click-on the Electronics tab and then type GoPro. Plenty will be at your disposal.
Good Luck. 8-)

Hi Swimbob. Glad to know there's a neighbor close by. Would that 2 miles be up I-26 or more close to W.Cola.?
I'm between Irmo and Ballentine.

Hell-o. I'm Ken from Irmo, SC. Small town about 10 miles N. of Columbia. I love the Nikons and have three.
D3000, D3100 and D5100. I am from a slightly remote area that has no 'bigger than life' photo ops, however,
the farm scenery is real nice and so are the macro shots I get occasionally.
Nice to be here and should soon be a regular. 8-)
