Your source that you copied and pasted from Good Housekeeping makes unsupported claims.

First of all, where does the 75% number describing the decrease in the food supply come from? There is no evidence cited. This would make some sense if butterfly bushes replaced all other plants in an area, but if you click on the “clear documentation” link in the article, the link makes no mention of butterfly bushes.

I don’t know of anyone who has butterfly bushes as the only plant on their property. We have one butterfly bush and several other flowering plants that the butterflies and hummingbirds frequent.

By similar logic you would think that bird feeders would also interrupt the ecosystem.

They are all sensational but #1 is a true work of art. S'matter of fact, I wish I had that art hanging on my den wall. Surely tripod not handheld? You're really my hero if the latter.

Thanks, Raz Theo! They were hand held. I appreciate your kind remarks.

Great "In-Flight" Photos, good use of your Shutter Speed too. Not sure about Aperture, seemed a little on the dark side, maybe that was your intention.

Thanks, Silverman! I think the darkness was a result of my post processing, they look different on different screens.

#1 is a killer, sleepy! My daughter and I go to the cornfields in Greenville, Michigan to shoot the marvelous Sandhills in the fall. We've been pleased with our captures but are still striving to get a shot equal to yours.
We're up to the challenge. Thanks for sharing these.

Nice shots. What lens?
I live in middle tennessee and a couple of days ago I heard and saw a fairly large group of sandhills flying north overhead. Is the majority of these birds still at the refuge?

Thanks, Wanda Krack! Nikkor 200-500. There are still lots of sandhills at and around the refuge. They usually stay until mid or late March, then start back north.
