So if you could choose between the latest generation of Nikon 400mm, 500mm and 600mm which would you choose? The 400 is an f2.8 while the 500 and 600 are f4's. The chosen one will be used on a D500 and D850 with or without a 1.4 TC III. While I won't say money is no object they are all within $2k of each other. I guess my main dilema is the 2.8 vs 4.

This lens will be used for wildlife; mammals and birds, mainly from a blind.

Thanks for any and all input.

I used the 400mm 2.8 to shoot a few races in Austin, Tx a couple years ago. When all was said and done the only thing I was upset about was the lens was not mine! It is a beast and if I could justify the purchase I would do it in a heart beat?

Don't want to be greedy but would take a couple D5's, 400mm 2.8, 500mm f4, and might as well grab a 600mm f4 while at it! Maybe stick a 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 in my jacket on the way out.

Haven't been able to get out much. Today I did get out for a little while and took a couple pictures I wanted to share. Having been a Mechanical Engineer, I love heavy equipment. Got a nice picture of a Bulldozer today that I hope you like.

Then I ran into this cool display along the highway leading into Mount Juliet Tennessee. Hope you enjoy that one too.

I'm going to now get my Thanks out of the way right at the get go by saying...."Thanks for looking Folks..."

Good to see more of your pictures James. I like the dozer for selfish reasons. I work for the local Caterpillar dealer and that one has our decal on it! Got to love that! Also, I pass by the car display everyday as I travel to and from work. I live in Mt. Juliet and am an old hot rodder to boot!

Great job!

Personally I would jump at the opportunity to purchase a DSLR without video, wi-fi and all the other features that make them so blasted expensive. All many photographers need is a camera. All the other technology just adds a lot of cost which I would rather put in lenses. Give me a DSLR that takes photos and photos only. I can get all the other technology, if I want it, from a myriad of other products. I really believe there is a huge market for this and average folks will flock to it because of the practicality and lower cost. This probably won't happen but I can dream can't I?

That is why I still use my D3. Yes, it is a little long in the tooth technology wise but still an exceptional camera without all the video features that I would never use!

KEH EX+ rating, yea or nay? Looking at a Canon 70-200L, it seems awful inexpensive to me. How do y'all feel about KEH and their rating system?

THANKS!!!

Purchased my Nikon 200-400 f4 from KEH at EX+ rating. Lens was like new! You will not be disappointed. They treat you right!

My most photographed subjects are simply in my backyard: bobcats, deer, Blue jays, hawks and of course red cars...

Beautiful 348 Julian! Have lusted over a 348 or 355 for years! For now I will just have to be satisfied with photographing my two 1932 Ford coupes.

Just returned from a trip to capture the HRS Classic 24 HRs in Daytona. Going down was no problem. Coming back they required I remove most of the camera equipment. Went through but had to pull it out of my bag. A friend went through without doing anything so I guess it is hit or miss. Who knows!

I got this in 1976 at Winchester Speedway. Winchester is like a half mile cereal bowl. I had permission to outside of the turn 4 wall.

Winchester is a very unique speedway and this is a wonderful picture of a sprinter in action!

I was at the shop this morning getting new tires on the bike, and this guy pulled in front of the shop. No Post.

Very nice car but it is either a 33 or 34 two door sedan, as there were very little difference between the two. Only the 3 window coupe had suicide doors in 1932. I have a 32 3window and a 5 window coupe.

Very nice picture SpyderJan!

Hearing only one side of the story it does sound like a rip-off of fans. What's the other side? You say that COTA opened more parking, but was it their land or land they had to rent from someone else at rip-off prices? I'm not trying to make excuses for COTA, but unless both sides of the story are known, I'm not going to criticize them.

It was definitely their property. It was a graveled lot across from the track. We had parked in this area the year before. The thing that miffed me was the police officers told us that COTA was opening up more area for parking due to the heavy rains and directed two lanes that way. It was not until you pulled into the lot with 5 cars behind you that they were taking money. One way in and no way to back or turn out due to all the mud. Not much choice at that point. I know that Friday and Saturday were washouts and the track lost a lot of money but that is not the way to get it back.

That said, it is a great track! Well laid out with incredible elevation changes.

My wife and I will be at Circuit Of The Americas at Austin, Tx for the F1 race on Oct 22. Was wondering if any other members were planning to attend.

Not this year as I have decided to attend the Historic Sportscar Racing 24 Hours of Daytona in November. Still miffed over parking from two years ago where the hurricane came thru dumping so much rain you could not park in the fields. COTA opened up more parking but charged each vehicle $100. Just wrong in so many ways!!
