I pick these up on the net from time to time and save them. Some may be from here on UHH but when something is good, I don't think seeing it again will hurt.

The one about the Scottish toilets is more than a joke. There has just been an enormous row in the Scottish assembly over biological male transexuals entering women only spaces. It has resulted in the first minister Nicola Sturgeon resigning.

Lincoln is also good to visit. There is plenty to see. Tripods are ok. You may be asked to make a contribution to upkeep of the cathedral, but it is good value I believe. You may be able to go up on the roof or up the tower if you are there at the right time.
You could also visit the castle which is close to the cathedral. Maybe you can see the copy of the Magna Carta.
Steep Hill is also quite picturesque. It lives up to its name.
If you are staying in the area you might visit Newark. There is a large market square with the town hall facing onto it. Market days are Wednesday and Saturday.
The parish church is worth seeing too.

Enjoy your visit, wherever you go.

your camera is capable of giving the size you need but your taking technique needs to be immaculate. Ideally use a tripod, remembering to switch off stabilisation. If not using a tripod make sure the shutter speed is high enough to compensate for camera shake. Focus carefully. Work in RAW.

If you want to do this without flash you might consider using a neutral density grad filter to reduce the brightness of the sky/lake.

In the UK Fotospeed makes/sells good quality replacement inks, also papers. I have no experience of Canon printers, but they work well in Epson printers. Whenever you move away from OEM materials you need to profile printing, but profiles may already be available for ink/paper/printer combinations. Fotospeed does a free profiling service for their materials.

Thank the Lord for the much maligned National Health Service in the UK. It has its problems, but prescription costs are just a few pounds per item to the user. It's a miracle that the execs of some of these companies haven't come to serious harm.

Take a few shots with varying exposures and look at the histogram. Pick the exposure that gets the histogram as far over to the right without burning out. This gets as much information into your file as possible and you can pull back the exposure easily in software to get the effect that you want. Shoot in RAW to give yourself the best chance.

This is a neat video that highlights small steam locomotives.
What got my attention were the vertical boilers and cylinders. The only vertical boiler have seen in my travels is the "Peppersass" locolotive at White Mtn Cog Railroad. It has horizontal cylinders. It is image # 16 in this post.

I'm don't know how this video rr track is classified (2' gauge?).
There is also, a working steam shovel.
The Threlkeld Quarry video is below.

Also, on some of the locomotives I see water tanks. I assume they all have water tanks.
I believe they are all coal fired as I think that is a pile of coal next to the water tower.
I'm guessing they carry a pail of coal with to feed the fire (tenders).

Threlkeld is in the English Lake District near Keswick. Very beautiful and worth visiting if you are in the UK.
They were making a loco from scratch when I was there in 2012.

I have a passport with 450 GB of digital snapshots from the last 10 years that I would like to get organized. There are folders inside of folders, a lot are duplicates. Most need to be trashed. But many are sentimental from vacations, grandchildren etc. My husband bought me Lightroom as a Christmas gift and I am overwhelmed by it already and don't know where to begin. Are there any suggestions for something very simple that I could do to get this mess untangled? I get frustrated very easily and am just wanting to ditch them all today.

It is well worthwhile getting to grips with Lightroom. There is plenty of material available on Adobe and Lightroom and UHH to help you. Once you have done it you will wonder what you were worrying about.
Advice given here about backing up files is right.
How you organise your files is up to you, but however you do it if you tag them in Lightroom it is really easy to find them, regardless of the file structure. By default Lightroom will organise them into date order, (I think). If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.
It sounds as if you have a pretty large number, but after importing them you don't have to do them all at once. Just work through them a bit at a time.
