Yep Bruce it is really dark here. I live in southwest Colorado at an elevation of about 8000 feet in a very small valley with little development. I will post some photos of the milky way this winter when it gets even darker. Mosin.

Howdy Sarge69, this was one of my first shots with this camera as I had just recieved it in the mail a few hours prior so I am still getting the hang of it. The settings are as follows...
M, aperture 4.0, ISO 6400 30 sec exposure,white balance =daylight. with the 24-105mm lens @24mm set to infinity.
Glad you like it. I will post more as time permits.

Hello all, I just bought a Canon 6d and took this picture with it the other night. I can say I am glad I saved up and went with the full frame and the L glass. I live in very dark sky country as this picture was taken from across the street from the house. Please let me know what you think. Thanks .

Great shots Roycebair. I too enjoy night sky photography as well. I have a question for you as you seem to be the one to ask. I need to upgrade cameras from an old s5is which worked enough for me to get the basics down when I installed chdk for the intravelometer and longer exposure times. My question to you is what would be the best mid range dslr for this type of work? I only have a budget of about $1000-1200. Thank you for your time and again great shots. Mosin.

Sorry to mislead you. I did not mean astrophotography. I will be taking long exposure shots of the night sky and mountains. The reason for the upgrade is because I am currently using my oldish Canon s5is with chdk installed for the intervalometer. this camera was great when just starting out but I have out grown it.Maybe one of these days I will aquire the skillset to attempt astrophotography just not yet. Thanks for the reply though.

Hi all, new here to UHH. Lokks to be a great site though. I have a question, which would be the better camera for taking night sky photos the canon t4i or the 60d. These are in my budget and skill level. Thanks for your time.
