The solid state batteries are much safer. They contain no liquid and that reduces the fire hazard to almost zero. Of course there is an exception to everything but solid state batteries are exponentially safer than regular lithium batteries.

Maybe so, but many people have witnessed or heard of accidents when jump starting a vehicle and reversed the cables. A dead short is still a dead short whether its lead-acid, or lithium. With that much current involved it'll a scary situation...

Typically a car with a range of 300 miles would have around 70kWh battery if not more. Now with over 900 miles the battery must be over 200kWh. The batteries used in EV are some 400V and some 800V. Assuming that this battery is 1000V then to charge the battery fully in 10 minutes the charger must deliver at least 2400A at 1000V.

Wow!! Now I can weld when I'm stuck in traffic!!

Norwegian ferry's don't allow EV's on their ships. Our ferry runs during the Summer season, and they're thinking of banning EV's also. A vehicle fire in the middle of the lake is pretty scary...

Looks like Toyota will have a battery providing over 900 miles for a 10 minute charge. Bit of a game changer in the EV world.

I sure wouldn't keep it in my garage (nor the entire neighborhood). From my High School Physics class I learned that energy cannot be created nor destroyed.
Calculate the Kilowatts required to move a mass (vehicle) over 900 miles and think of all this energy stored in a small box. Think of all the fires they've had with pretty small batteries (e-scooters and bikes, etc)

"plant's defense against being eaten. Only one animal is stupid enough to consume them on a regular basis."

Birds don't mind them because they lack the "heat sensors". The plant evolved "hot" to keep mammals away. A bird will eat the seeds (which they can't digest), and crap them out many miles away, thus expanding the range of the plant.
After drying them and grinding into a powder, I mix it with the Peanut Butter that I give the birds. It's fun watching Squirrels try a mouthful....

Captured this beautiful bird at camp last summer. I had no idea what it was. After a bit of searching with Cornell, discovered that it's a Summer Tanager.
It was a bit off it's usual range, they don't come up this far North.

One way of adding interest to a shot is to frame the subject....

A few years ago we sold our house in Southern Ontario and moved "lock, stock, and barrel" to Northern Ontario. The sign at the city limits reminded me of the Mac Davis song, "Texas in my rear view mirror".

Going to a new beginning..

Now that you've piqued my curiosity, I went through my Chickadee shots and discovered that they are Brown! I cropped this shot to show the eyes.

Was that the jetliner that got less fuel than it needed because of the metric screw-up? From what I recall, it landed on a drag strip that was being used at the time.

Yup, a Boeing 767. I was at CFB Gimli a few times when I was with the Queen's Own Rifles (Airborne) in the 60's for parachute exercises. It was a RCAF training base until it was decommissioned in 1971. Then the locals used the runway as a drag strip. Imagine being on that runway and a big aircraft coming in silently for a "dead stick" landing. Bravos to the pilot! And to Capt. "Sully" for a brilliant landing in the Hudson River.

Conversions have a lot of potential problems. Anyone remember the "Gimli Glider" in 1983? That was about the time we switched to metric.
The fuel was measured in kgms instead of pounds. Now we buy our food in kilograms and fuel in litres, and enjoy the Summers with temps of 30C, and Winters at -25C. No problems since....

Great shot!!

I too hate shots of birds on feeders, especially Hummers. At home and at camp I tie-wrap branches and twigs near the feeder with a good natural green background. Works good for me.

I remember the "Xsistor numbers war".... Some unscrupulous manufacturers would insert transistors with their leads soldered together.
They weren't functional, but added to the transistor count....
