New toy so I thought I'd try out Scene setting in Fireworks Mode with about a 4 second delay. Not too bad for starters, I guess.

I have around $2000 to spend. Should I get an iMac or a Nikon D750? I WANT both but I think the computer might be the smarter choice. I just got a D7100 at Christmas time, but I have 2 full frame lenses. I'm a hobbyist with aspirations to do family & individual portraits. I've FINALLY learned how to use LR, but my PC is 5 years old ( although it does have a new 1 TB SSD). I thought that I would be cured with the new camera & new lenses. Is there no cure for this GAS?

I just bought a Nikon D7200 (whoopie!) and I'd like to tell you why I bought Nikon rather than Canon or a different brand.

When I was young, my father bought me a Taron 35, a Japanese (back when Japanese meant "cheap") 35 mm camera with only manual controls. I used a separate light meter to determine exposure settings. I fondly remember the years that camera took me on photographic adventures. Sigh.

Eventually I learned about SLRs and of course I wanted one.
Now, in those ancient days THE rangefinder camera was the Leica (still is?) and THE SLR was the very expensive Nikon. I looked at pictures, catalogs, and salivated. So began my desire to have a Nikon SLR some day.

Now I have retired and it was time to by a DSLR. OF COURSE it was a Nikon. NOT for any technical reason. NOT because of any reviews. NOT for any issues relating to quality. I know that Nikon and Canon both produce marvelous cameras as do many other companies. They are all good today. (We are very spoiled!) My reason was purely emotional and irrational. So there!!!

Thanks. Just spoke to Capt Jack. Sending him info. Hope we can hook up with him. Sounds like a good guy.

He IS a good guy. Either he or his son will pilot the boat. Cap'n Jack picked us up at the ship and took us for a little sightseeing trip thru Juneau, to a from the whale watching tour. Very interesting guy.

Heading for an inland passage tour in Alaska and have about 6 free hours in Juneau. We're scheduled to Whale watch and see eagles on the tour so I'm looking for complementary things to see and photo in Juneau. I've read that the Mendenhall Glacier is worth seeing. Any other suggestions and how best to get there would be greatly appreciated.

We went with Captain Jack (scaniaww@aol.com) and his boat holds about 6 or 8. MUCH better than booking thru the cruise lines that carry elbow to elbow, about 45 people or so. Whale watching in Juneau is pretty darn good, BTW.

Going to Skagway? A helicopter ride to the top of a glacier (if the weather is clear) is a fantastic trip! They will let you off and forget about you for an hour (2 guides are onsite). They will come back....

It's nice when a big company apologizes to its customers. This is the type of apology they probably like making. their P900 is selling so well that they have not been able to keep up with demand, so they apologized to their customer base.

I think that when a new model is introduced, the only thing worse than not having enough inventory is having too much. If they had thousands of P900's gathering dust on the shelves, someone at Nikon would be apologizing to his boss.

Good to know and thanks for the note. Ordered mine from Adorama a month ago, so I'm in line.....someplace

I have used up all the space on my old computer since getting my new D7100 in May of this year. I am looking to replace the computer and was wanting some input on certain things I should be looking for to use this for my pictures. Such as graphics card or other things. Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, I just purchased a Macbook Pro, refurbished from Apple, and saved about $500 compared to new. It's just like refurbed cameras/lenses from Nikon/Cannon, gone thru, tested and like a brand spankin new machine.

My wife and I will be going on a Caribbean cruise in November, and I was hoping to get feedback about taking my Nikon D5200 on the cruise. I have an 18-200, 70-300, 11-16, and 35mm lenses. Should I be concerned about the size of the DSLR or take a cannon D9 instead? Which lenses would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My wife and I just got back from Alaska. Our Skagway excursion took us by bus into Frasier BC where we boarded the White Pass Railroad headed back towards Skagway. I agree with the others' comments. The platforms at either end of the rail cars are best. Fortunately for us, we did the guided hike in Denver Valley. We were extremely lucky since the weather was spectacular. The opportunities in the valley were unlimited. One of the guides even took 4 of us to the head of the valley were we could see the glacier the valley is named after. My T3i with my 300mm zoom proved to be ideal for the conditions. I hope you have as good of an experience as we did.

We docked in Skagway, took the White Pass RR, a chopper ride way into the mountains, landed on and toured Glacier Discovery and I am still awestruck by all that. According to the pilot, access to this place is only when the weather is clear, so we had a real treat.

Friday this week we will be headed to Alaska, 2 days later hopefully chasing Blue Whales in Juneau, and the next day the train ride in Skagway. My arsenal of gear includes: D7000, BIGSIG 150-500, Nikon 12-24 and Sig 18-250 Macro. I have a 70-300 but my back pack is already full and quite heavy with all the other stuff I mentioned. I learned earlier a tripod is not a good thing on a ship, so that is OUT. This excursion is a life-long dream come true for my wife and I, and as you all well know, photos tell the tale when it's all over. ANY suggestions/tips from UHHers will definitely be appreciated. Friends of ours went last year and their major complaint was they wished they had a better camera. I have been preparing for this (camera wise) for 9 months and think I am ready to shoot.[/

Well how was it???
My 17 year old son and I are going on the photo safari next Saturday in Juneau. Any tips on how to make it best trip ever will be greatly appreciated.

Fabulous! We hired Captain Jack for the Whale Watching excursion. His 29' boat carries maybe 6-7 total, while others we saw were loaded with 40+. Were on the whales quickly and stayed with 'em for hours...amazing. I shot with the D7000 and my 18-250 for the whales cause we were pretty close. We only traveled thru Juneau to the docks and wish we could have spent more time in town....cool place! LOTS of beautiful scenery everywhere you look (of course it's Alaska). The weather was clear to partly cloudy the entire trip so we were able to see all AK has to offer that is usually in cloud cover.
