"Chasseur" was the name of the original Baltimore
schooner that sailed to England during the War of 1812 and brashly told King George they were under blockade (by one ship). She then sank or captured a large number of British merchant ships and was hailed back home as "The Pride of Baltimore." Hence the name of the first and second Pride of Baltimore.

Though the present ship is called the Pride of Baltimore, this little Dory which resides on the Pride is named "Chasseur" after the original schooner.

Congratulations Ginny, Great photograph and a very interesting bit history.

Warren, very nice photograph. The focus is right on.
Just a minor point The contrast is a little flat but and it
does not take away from the story.

Thanks JMO
Left the "et" out intentionally, I didn't think that it needed to be there.

Anxiously awaiting my UPS delivery of "Advanced Digital Black and White Photography" book! In meantime, please let me know if you'd do anything differently to these. Thanks!

Linda, the first three are over exposed with large areas blocked out. The last two I think are quite good. The aspens are well exposed and have nice range of grays, the DOF may be a little shallow but the composition is quite good. The last may be a little bit overexposed but not much. Both would be better if curves were adjusted.

macro2009, Excellent photograph, any advice that you might have on macro photography would be greatly appreciated.

I have already been shot down in flames from the True Macro group (consider these images as close up with a macro lens); I am hoping to learn and will eventually conform to their ethos in due course.
I appreciate your comment thank you.

Whatever, your photographs are fantastic. Don't change a thing.

Just for an experiment I used the option of 'Edit' in my Photoshop X4 ' Enhance Photo ' and bumped up the Local Tone Mapping on this photo to "strength 30" and "block size to 40"

There is a difference ain't there ?

Sarge69

Sarge69. what a difference, I like it very much, you started with a very good photograph, selected depth of field was just right as well as the exposure and color balance. I really like the final result, I wouldn't change a thing.

Every time I think I have taken a georgous picture. I look at this website and feel like such an amature Iam embarrassed to post any of my pictures however being a newbie Iam dying to hear what somebody thinks of the pics I take. If I finally get up the courage to post a picture please take it easy on me.

I'm trying my best to learn but frankly just do not know what makes a great picture from a mediocre one. Thank you all for all for your post I learn a little more from each one.

Building up the courage to post a picture.........

kenn54, don't worry about what someone else thinks, sometimes (most by far) its good and sometimes may be not. Everyone here has the same goals and that's to be better photographers. Please Post
