Thanks, infocus. Yes, that's how I remember p[inhole cameras,
& how I suggested my grandson make one. Then I wondered if
a pinhole in a body-cap would do the same job, & from what
I've subsequently discovered, it will. But somehow that
takes all the fun out of it - know what I mean?
Thanks again for replying....guess you're an old-timer,as I am!

I guess this is the closest category in which to ask my question:
A grandson recently asked me about pinhole cameras, & I told him what I could remember from my B.D. (Before Digital) days. But
on thinking it over, I wondered if a pinhole camera might be made
by using an old film SLR & making the pinhole in the body-cap, or in a piece of card masking the opening?
Any suggestions/comments out there, please?

On one of my most likeable lenses (70-210 constant f4 Minolta "Beercan") the rubber grip of the zoom control has become "tired" and stretched with age, & is loose on the lens. Does anybody know of a treatment that might restore its elasticity and grip?
Any suggestions thankfully received.

Good work, Miriam! - you have four years on me; I've just pushed 87! Yes, common in my boyhood too, & the gift of one for my 12th birthday started my interest in photography.
You could be right with your 1900 date.that was the year the Brownie entered the market, and it did initially have a square format. I've always believed the 620, with its smaller diameter spool was introduced in the '30's or 40's, to allow a slimmer folding camera, & also to steal a march on opposition film manufacturers.

I don't think these are "Brownies". These can only take photos
in "portrait" mode (no "landscape" finder) & look more like
Hawkeyes to me. Kodak took over Hawkeye, & to mark its 50th anniversay c.1930 gave thousands of these cameras free to
American youngsters. They take 120 film incidentally

Hi TonyP, I remember 1ZB, 2ZB, Phil Shone, April Fool's day with the vanishing cream, or was that Merv Smith? No TV in those days, not a PC, a Gestetner Duplicating machine, Remington typewriter, are we spoilt for choice these days/ Yes, lots of NZ'ers here, a great forum. Cheers, Nancy J. p.s. your Wgn flatting days would have been great fun.

I think that was Merv Smith; Phil's classic was the invasion of Aukland by a hoard of Waikato wasps, & the extraordinary precautions to be taken to avoid them. I was often panel operator for Phil, but sadly, not on that occasion.

Great days!
Cheers

Yes, Tony, that's my vintage. I joined the old NZBC in '49 as a tech at !ZB, Xferred to programmes & worked at Rotorua, Whangarei & Greymouth (a wonderful 5 years there) & in '64 came up to H.O. in Wgtn in company with friend & colleague Bill Toft, who as newsreader saw much more of the the old Waring Taylor studio than I did. As a documentary specialist,my working area was B'casting House of hallowed memory until (& after) retirement.
Thanks for the welcome!

Nice shots I can only see a duo of birds though.

Ah yes... I'm just learning to count! Sorry about that. The missing bird - plus a couple of others for good measure - all hide in a later post

It's nothing exceptional - a Braun Super Paxette, with Staeble-Kata
45 mm. I saw it in a secondhand shop & bought it for five bucks
complete with leather case, box, original purchase receipt, Metraphot clip-on rangefinder, lens hood & yellow filter. Incident
rangefinder getting a little dim now, otherwise it's in good nick.
I'm not a collector - it was just a sentimental purchase.
